The box was allowed to cool down as it was to hot to touch. The main breakers were pulled, all corroded contact surfaces were cleaned and breaker box components reassembled. This was done without shutting down the main power to the house. Never had a problem since. If the main breaker box was not attached to the basement cement wall but a wood surface, the overheated components could have started a fire.

They could have done better. I had to keep calling them to get them to come back. It took them between a week and three weeks to call back. They had no time for me.

They were very professional and very courteous. They were very pleasant and didn't use any rough language.

Not only did we lose power and some appliances, when a large tree fell onto our power line, but the outage caused a small (but nonetheless very loud) leak in the water pipe in the front yard. The reason? The grounding wire sent a shock into the water pipe; the shock made piccolo-type holes in the pipe that ran from the house to the street. Being an older home, the grounding wire extends from the fuse box at the back of the house to the water line at the front of the house, completely underground, as in UNDER the foundation! (These days I'm told that code is that it must be within 5 feet.) After a parade of utility servicemen, the Vos guys promptly showed up as called and safely got the juice back on for us; that is, until the city inspector stopped in as required. The inspector insisted that a second grounding wire be installed. How? Oh, probably through the walls and ceiling of our beautifully finished lower level, you know, "knock some holes here, here, and here," kind of thing. Yikes! Vos came back out and after some careful noodling, they ingeniously figured out a way to run another grounding wire over the ceiling making only one small, imperceptible hole. It was a challenge, but they did it with respect to both safety and the aesthetics of our living space. Whew! As you can imagine, we had quite a few different types of contractors in to repair the damage done by the tree accident (plumbing, flatwork, landscaping), but Vos was BY FAR, the most responsive of the lot.
