I was going to buy kitchen cabinets, etc from Home Depot. I paid the "on sale" price of $50 to have their installation company, Countertop Specialists come to my house and measure my kitchen. Dan came out & measured. Denise called me. She tells me due to my basement crawlspace they would not do the plumbing, I would have to find my own plumber. She said they feared pipes freezing and they would be liable for pipes bursting. Then she talks about electrical. installation of 4 wall outlets. Installation of outlet for refrigerator, overhead microwave, and 220 for the stove. All that for, get this, $12,525! I had many others provide me with quotes. All offered to do the plumbing. All offered to do the electrical with offers coming in approximately $2,500. I asked Denise how they possibly calculated so high. She said "Well, we don't just hire any ole electrician out of the yellow pages". Needless to say Home Depot lost my business due to Countertop Specialists being their installers. I went on to hire a Home Builder/Remodeler who bid $15,000 to do the entire kitchen. That includes cabinets, countertops, plumbing and electrical! I paid a non-refundable $50 to Home Depot for Dan to come out and measure my kitchen and for Countertop Specialists to give me an outrageous bid. I should also point out, all the others who came to my house measure and provide me a bid, did so for free.

"Hey [Member Name Removed], The $50 "deal" price is a price Home Depot sets, and that is their standard to charge for measuring. We did not feel comfortable dealing with your pipes in the crawl space. Other companies are willing to take that risk then so be it. We try to avoid situations where we foresee issues, avoiding times that may lead to an F rating as in this case. An F for merely giving you a quote we believe is not service rendered. Best of luck with whoever you choose. (there isn't a Denise that works here, there is a Dan, but he doesn't do measurements)"

The tops were completed on time.  Our contractor picked up the tops yesterday, asked them to make a change in the way two pieces connected, which they did and they will be installed today.  We are pleased with the whole process.
