On 1/14/16, my husband called Ben at Flow-Rite to fix our sump pump, which seemed faulty, since it was cycling continuously without pause. Ben arrived, and after 2 hours, installed a new switch on our pump. During this process, Ben mentioned that he would have liked to have installed a new sump pump, but given the late hour, a new switch would have to suffice. Ben also said that the new switch would hold up fine. As someone who knows little of such matters, this seemed reasonable to me. Ben left with the understanding that we would need to reschedule for a more long-lasting and permanent solution to our sump pump situation (which would be to include a reconfiguration of our back-up sump pump system). In scheduling with Ben, I let him know that Wednesday afternoons were free, but that the only one I had available for the next four weeks was the following Wednesday (six days away). I made it clear that this Wednesday needed to be the day for a scheduled appointment, if not with Flow Rite, then with a different plumbing outfit. Ben assured me that he would make it work. When 3pm on January 20th rolled around (our scheduled appointment date and time), and Ben did not show up, I waited ten minutes, then called. I received the ?I was just going to call you? routine, as something had come up on his end. Needless to say, as this was THE day that I had available to get our sump pump situation resolved, I was frustrated, and told Ben that I would need to re-schedule with another plumber on my next available Wednesday.
Before a new plumber arrived for an appointment, and within a few weeks of our Flow Rite situation, our sump pump failed due to a faulty switch and our basement was flooded. After speaking with three plumbing professionals since, I?ve been told that replacing a switch alone on a sump pump is not standard practice. When I called to seek restitution from Ben, he hemmed and hawed about how his insurance company would not make restitution for a claim, but that he would call them and follow up with me in 48 hours. After not hearing from Ben (I gave him seven days), I called him again and asked what progress had been made with the insurance company. Based on his response, it seemed as though he had not bothered to inquire with his insurance. When I then asked what he could do to make the situation right, either by reimbursing the cost of the switch or the cost of our initial emergency visit from Flow Rite, (since it was in the evening), I was told that he felt no obligation to rectify my situation through any reimbursement of material or labor costs. I would argue that doing right by the customer would involve exactly this. In any event, if this testimonial serves any purpose, it is simply to reinforce the age-old adage of ?BUYER BEWARE??..at least when it comes to Flow Rite.

Response from Flow-Rite Plumbing
"On Thursday evening, January 14, 2016, Mr. [Removed Member Name] called me requesting help with the sump pump in his home that was not working. I told him I would come to his home to help him shortly after I picked up a new pump from the store. Mr. [Removed Member Name] told me that would not be necessary because he had a pump for me to install. Upon arrival at his home, I found his pump switched had failed and was stuck in the on position and was continually running. The city water powered sump pump backup system was installed improperly and non functional. To my surprise, the pump that he wanted me to install was previously used, an old pump that had no switch. By this time in the evening, the stores were closed and I had no ability to purchase a new pump to install. In over 25 years of plumbing service that was the first used pump I have ever installed, because this is something I would not do by choice. At that time, I informed Mr. [Removed Member Name] that his sump basin was too small for the large amount of water flowing into his sump basin, forcing the pump to turn on and off too quickly. In addition, there was not enough room to properly install the equipment. Consequently, I made four recommendations/options in order of effectiveness. 1. Install a larger basin with a dual pump system and controls that has alarms for both pump failure and high water and properly install the backup pump 2. Install a new pump with high water alarm and get the backup system functioning 3. High water alarm and get backup system functioning 4. Get backup system functioning Mr. [Removed Member Name] was not interested in the first 3 options but agreed upon the 4th. I said I could return as early as the next day to proceed with option 4. Mr. [Removed Member Name] would only allow me access the following Wednesday at 2pm (6 days later). I asked him to please arrange for me to have access to his home sooner so that I could do the job. He could pay me later, after he had an opportunity to inspect the job. He refused this and insisted on the following Wednesday and when that Wednesday come around, he cancelled. Again I explained the difficultly of having such a narrow time frame for an appointment and that I’m unable to control how long the jobs earlier in the day will take, asking again if he would allow earlier access. After he refused, I said I would try and make it the following Wednesday at 2pm, this now being 2 weeks. Shortly after this, I then had to cancel because I ran into a scheduling conflict. Mr. [Removed Member Name] then told me he would find someone else to do the work. I then received a call that the switched had failed and that he called another company to replace the pump and was wondering what kind of plumber puts in a used pump. It must be understood, that the decisions of Mr. [Removed Member Name] were the reason for his basement floor getting wet. It was his choice to ignore my recommendations I offered on my initial visit that evening. It was his choice to have me install the used pump. It was his choice not to allow me access to his home in a timely manner to get the backup system running. And lastly, it was his choice not to call me and let me try to rectify the situation. At the root of this problem is that Mr. [Removed Member Name] was NOT interested in a permanent solution to his problem, as he stated in his complaint. All things mechanical will eventually fail. With that in mind, a used pump and a back up system that has no alarm to inform of its activation is far from the description of a permanent solution. I have given customers my professional recommendations as a license plumber for over 25 years, informing them of the best options for their situation, but in the end it is the customer's decision to accept them or not and deal with the consequences that follow."

It was fine. He did the diagnostic for free so he came out twice. The service was very good and he was very knowledgeable. He took the time to explain to us what was going on, how he would handle it and what the scope of the work was. As far as we could tell he did give us a fair price. He was excellent. He trusted him and he was ready to do the work and he took the time to educate us.

They uninstalled all the old water heaters and replaced them with new ones. They also did some plumbing work to install the new water heaters. They are very good in their job and I will continue to use their services in future.

I called Flow-Right after receiving a recommendation from my father-in-law who recently had a back-up sump pump put in. Ben, the owner, answered within 2 rings. Ben and I discussed over the phone what I needed and he was able to give me an estimate while we spoke. He came over 2 days later to perform the work. In addition to the work Ben did on the faucet, he replaced a pipe that was almost completely rotted through. I also asked him to take a look at a leaking outside spout. I'm 100% satisfied with all the work Ben did and feel he went above and beyond with the extra things that I asked him to do.

Ben has done quite a bit of work for us in the past. We started with him after going through a few fixed dollar places (expensive) and other plumbers (questionable). Ben is extremely fair and prompt. He worked around my hectic schedule and cleans up afterwards. Matter of fact, they clean up better than it was before they came! I'm extremely happy with the work and would highly recommend them. He has installed a new water tank for our well system, a new high pressure toilet and new plumbing for the septic. All done with extremely good care and great integrity. Can't say enough about them - give them a try...you won't be disappointed. I am not a relative or personal friend - although perhaps after such a great review I will be.
