"Thank you for the nice review ...it was pleasant working for you , too ! Thank you for the job !"
"Thank you for the nice review , and for the opportunity to do the work !"
Jeff arrived on time and ready to work and was finished within 2 days. It looks great and we get compliments on our backsplash all the time. I would use Cream City Tile again for future projects.
"THIS WAS NOT MY COMPANY THAT DID THIS WORK ... I work alone as estimator and contractor ...This company was most likely ' Cream city tub & tile ' , a tub refinishing contractor , who also does tile work . !"
All of the plumbing in the tub needed to be replaced, which I told Jeff, and he set up a plumber to come out, Jon Debelak Plumbing. I have also reviewed them.
Jeff did a good job. He worked quickly, ripping out the walls, shimming in cement board, installing cement board, installing and grouting the tile. Overall we were pleased with his work and are enjoying the new tub surround.
There were only a couple of sticking points. First, he only ripped out the walls up to where the previous tile ended. When we discussed the installation originally, I asked for the tile to go all the way to the ceiling. He agreed. I figured this meant he would install cement board up to the ceiling and tile on it. The top several rows of tile are just on the drywall that was there originally. The cement board is a little thinner than the drywall so there is a hump where the tile transitions from cement board to the drywall. It's not very noticeable, except that I know it's there. I blame this on myself and lack of communication.
The other thing was that he used a product called Mapei Kerr 909 mastic as an adhesive. He brought it with him and I did not know he was going to use this beforehand. After some research (unfortunately, after most of the work was done), I found that mastic is generally not the best product to use in wet areas such as a tub or shower since it can re-emulsify (basically soften) if regularly exposed to water. Thinset does not have this drawback since it consists of cement which hardens through a chemical process. Mastic gradually sets as water leaves it, which takes quite a while. The directions actually state to wait several weeks before using the material that has been tiled. If I had been a more informed consumer I would have insisted upon thinset.
We are hoping that water isn't able to penetrate the grout to soften the mastic but if it does Jeff will be the first person I call.
About a month after the installation we noticed water leaking through the floor and into the basement. I called Jeff, who was able to come out immediately. He was able to diagnose the situation and reduce it to a plumbing issue. He called the plumber who came out and fixed the problem.
Overall, we really enjoy the new tub surround.
Jeff Adair is a true professional and a true craftsman.  After doing thorough research on Angie's List, I decided to call Jeff for an estimate.  He called me back right away and we arranged a walk-through the following week.  He was prompt, took a lot of measurements and told me he'd get back to me within 2 days with the quote (which he did).  When he called with the quote, he explained that it would be a 7 day job (he works alone).  Because this is our only bathroom, this was going to present a challenge to our family (2 small children); however, I knew I wanted to hire him b/c I truly felt he would do an excellent job.  Also, he was able to start the job the following week, which is exactly what we wanted.
On the first day of the job, he realized it was a bigger project that he originally estimated, so he let us know it would be a 9 day job, instead of 7.  It was good to know that right away on the first day.  Also, there was an issue with the plumber not being able to come the first day (she got hung up on another job), but he was in constant contact with me letting me know these developments as they occurred (I was at work).
Most of the work was done while we were not home.  I felt 100% comfortable giving Jeff access to our home.  He made sure to clean out the tub every day when he was done so that we could take baths.  He called me on my cell if he had questions.  I left him notes in the morning if I had questions, and he would call and answer them right away.  He was very clean (he swept and removed all garbage at the end of each day).  For part of the job, we were going to be out of town (for a 3 day weekend).  He planned his work so that he would remove the toilet and install the floor while we were gone, which minimized the inconvenience to our family, and I greatly appreciated that.  We were actually glad he was working on our home while we were away, b/c we felt that we had a trustworthy person watching over our home.
Jeff sometimes stayed until 6:30 or 7:00 pm working b/c he always said he "wanted to get to a certain point."  As I stated above, he also came in on a Saturday.  He is one of the hardest workers I have ever met.  He kept his saw in our garage, which is on the lower floor of our home.  So every time he had to cut tile, he had to go down the steps and then come back up....probably 50 times a day!   I joked with him that he was getting quite a work-out at our home.
Our bathroom now looks amazing!  He did such an excellent job!  Another reviewer stated that he is a perfectionist...the best in his field...and I completely agree.  He comes from a family of flooring and tile installers, so it's obviously in his blood.  He is prompt, ethical, honest, hard-working and very detail-oriented.   And, to top it all off, he's reasonable!  If there's a way to attach photos of my bathroom before and after, I will.  But if I can't, you'll just have to trust me that it's beautiful!  You will be elated with your results if you hire Jeff!
