The previous company we had come out tried to tell us we had a bad smart valve that would cost $900 to replace (seems very high to me!). Thankfully we called Burant Heating ... because that was definitely not the problem! The people we had install new siding over the summer broke off the intake and exhaust pipes on the side of the house. They fixed it, but unfortunately they put the pipes going in the wrong directions! This was causing the smart valve to freak out and not keep the fire lit.
I was impressed that they were able to track down the real root of the problem and not automatically jump to a $900 repair option that wouldn't have even solved the problem!
Will most likely give them another call the next time we have HVAC issues.
installers asked to use our vacuum cleaner to clean up debris. They did
not do a good job cleaning, and they left drywall dust and particles on
our bed and floors as well as debris in the attic where the air handler
was installed. One of the reasons that was dissatisfied with the
installation in the attic was because of the lack of cleanup and the
installation of the air ducts. At first glance, the insulation that was
wrapped around a return duct was hastily attacked and secured with one
strip of duct tape slapped across it. Upon further inspection, I found
areas that were leaking air and sheet metal supply lines with no
insulation at all. I contacted Burant and insisted that the owner come
out to investigate my concerns. After his visit, an installer returned
to correct the shortcomings. I have not re-inspected since the last
visit because I don't want to feel any more remorse for my decision to
hire Burant. In addition to the drywall debris left by the installers,
the drywall is damaged around the two air ducts that had to be removed
and reinstalled. The carpet in the hallway leading to the attic is
ruined. The protective canvas runner that Burant used was filthy. With
the back and forth traffic to install the air handler, the crud that it
was soiled with was ground into our carpeting. Burant sent out a carpet
cleaner to clean the carpet but it remains soiled and will have to be
replaced. When I think about the whole experience, I am disappointed
because after being assured that the work was done in a professional
manner, I wrote two checks totaling $12,890 only to find deficiencies
that should have been known to be substandard. Someone made a
conscientious decision to leave them that way. Within a couple of day
post installation, the system shut down twice and I had to make two
service calls.
"We deeply regret that this job was not done to customer's standards and ultimately not our own standards. After first hearing a complaint about the quality of work, the owner of our company went out to the customer's home that same day to inspect the work. We were in complete agreement that it was not to our standards and immediately pulled someone who was working on another job to go and rectify the problems. This issue was then addressed with all who worked on the job and appropriate disciplinary action was taken."
So I joined Angie's List and looked up Heating and Air Conditining found K Komfort they came out 2 days after Burant looked at the air conditioner and said the clamp on unit was loose and it should of been tight,he asked if someone checked unit lately said Yes he knew right away. This is what I'm saying K Komfort told me right away how much freon I needed and Alex from Burant had no clue till he got in there, sounds like a problem!!!Be careful when you have work done!!
Very Disappointed Customer
"{removed member name} did call requesting maintenance on her equipment and service for her AC that was not working. While she had been on our maintenance program, in 2013 we attempted to call to schedule her maintenance on 4/25/13, 8/2/13, and 8/6/13 without any answer or response to our calls. While we appreciate the customers previous business with us, it is our policy to not make more than three attempts to schedule. After we received no response, we removed her from the plan. During the service/maintenance call in question, our service technician discovered that the AC was low on refrigerant. While every AC comes with a factory charge amount that is listed on the name plate, that amount can be added to or subtracted from based on the length of the line set run. Scientifically, there is no way of knowing exactly how much refrigerant has leaked out of the system. A technician must simply add refrigerant until the pressures come withing manufacturers specified range. Upon letting the customer know that we did not know exactly how much refrigerant the system was short, she advised us that she did not want the repair completed. As it is our policy to never pressure a customer, we obliged her request did not make the repair and finished the maintenance call. The statement made about the other contractor knowing exactly how much refrigerant the system needed prior to adding it or arriving is simply not true. It is not scientifically possible."
Burant Heating and AC ended up coming in as competitive as the others, but was able to offer us a much more energy efficient package than what we had before. We figured out that even upgrading the furnace, it would pay for itself in 5 years. In regards to the package, we ended up with a better A/C unit, a variable speed two stage furnace, all for less than what would have been from the other guys. Not to mention, we are receiving a much longer labor warranty than the others... worth a lot of $ to me.
In regards to the service, they were able to come the next day after I accepted the proposal. They installed everything, though the electrician was delayed to install an outlet for the AC unit. That created some hiccups in the service. There was also a misunderstanding between the electrician and installers, which I think further caused a delay. However, Burant solved the issue same day, and got us up and running that evening. They went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied, even if it costed them more to make sure of it.
I really appreciate having the owner come out to do the estimate too. It shows he is invested in his company, and making sure his customers are satisfied (and getting the system they need). I would definitely recommend them to anyone in the future.
