May 2013, we hired Semenas Excavating and Contracting for the construction of our new home. Ron said our contract was on the high end and it wouldn't be more than that. The Semenas company did not abide by the contract. The stoop was to be filled with stone as the contract stated. When Ron was questioned, he replied "the stoop was filled with clay and chunks of cement. Most people don't notice. I was trying to save you some money." No where did we get any savings from them putting clay and chunks of cement in there. Ron ripped up drain tile in the basement with a Bobcat. Ron stated he would be back to fix the drain tile which we ended up having to fix on our own. He hit the basement wall with the Bobcat and left a crack and a big chip.

July 2013 Ron Semenas was notified to put the septic system in. Ron showed up with a bill for $2,100 for pulling cement trucks which was not stated in the contract. The contractor notified him several times to get the driveway in so that it would be easier for everyone working. Ron pretty much refused to put our driveway in before the cement trucks came in and it was basically clay. He was buddies with the guy who was pouring the cement and was doing the cement guy a favor. He was trying to get extra money for somebody which was not us. Before you hire anyone, you should check public records. He refused to finish our excavating contract. Our excavating contract was for $18000 and he tried to bill us $4500 more.

The positive experience we got out of this is that the new plumber and excavator gave us a much better design. The new plumber also noted concerns and/or possible issues with the orignal design plan that had been submitted by Semenas.

Ron Semenas refused to put or septic mound system in until the extra $4500.00 bills were paid for. He refused to give us  our septic permits that we paid $1400.00.   Ron Semenas refused to finish the excavating contract and the septic system mound contract. Semenas did damage to a brand NEW house. Did not use materials specified in contract between us and semenas trucking. Billed us in excess of $4500.00 over the contract of $18,882.00. Semenas kept our $1400.00 permits. Due to it being late in the season this increased our cost considerably. CONSUMER BEWARE.
Response from Semenas Excavating & Trucking Inc
"We would also say beware of working for [Member Name Removed] it was a nightmare. Most of the contractors in town would have nothing to do with them. This matter was settled in the courts with a judgement against THEM and a payment to us for the balance due plus attorney's fees. The judge in the case went through every contract, invoice and daily report sheet with yards of stone, machine and man hours on it for the entire job and found that we did NOTHING wrong. [Member Name Removed]'s post is sour grapes. They were building a home that was way beyond their means and got in over their heads. We did a lot of extras on the job for free. We did not refuse to install their septic system. They tried to hire a excavator that was not licensed to install septic systems instead of allowing us to honor our contract and were going to try to do it under our plumber's name and license number. We would have been responsible in the eyes of the state and county that's why they didn't get the permit back. We could have sued them for breach of the septic system contract but we didn't. They broke the contract, we did not. In the end they hired a plumber who sold them a much more expensive system (which we could have done also) and had to apply for new permits for the different system anyway. The original septic design was approved by the state of Wisconsin and would have not passed the approval system if there were any flaws in it. When they contracted with us in the beginning they were concerned with cutting costs anywhere they could and we did our best to accommodate them. We didn't refuse to do any work for them until [Member Name Removed] became belligerent causing us to have to get the police involved in the situation. We only asked for what was due to us. We tried to settle this with them over and over but they refused and were planning on paying us nothing. They could have saved thousands of dollars if they would have settled with us and let us finish the job. We were willing to take a loss on the job to stay on good terms. We did everything we could for them."
