Very bad. They told me it was $200 an hour for coming on a Saturday (Emergency basis). They did not tell me about other charges. The invoice read as: labor: $232 When it was supposed to be $200; materiales $2:10 there was not materials used, truck charges $36 Truck charges??? Subtotal $270 Plus tax 13.51 total 283.61. I think it would be nice to tell me in advance of all those extra charges. Took me by surprise all the charges and it tooK the person 5 minutes to fix the issue.
Response from Ahern Gross Plumbing Contractors
"It is a 33 minute drive from our shop to your house. We charge from the time we leave the shop to the time we return. That is one hour six minutes right there. Every company has a truck charge when traveling out of town. The plumber tried talking you out of overtime service since we were coming from Fond du Lac and you are in Oshkosh. The $2.10 miscellaneous charge is for gloves, mask, etc. due to Covid-19"

It went well. The repair person was prompt, explained the problem and replaced the bathtub faucet quickly. We were very satisfied with his work.

The plumber was unable to figure out what was wrong with the toilet although it was only about 8 years old.  He was able to mostly unclog the drain.  It's still running a bit slow, but much better.  He didn't take anything apart, just stuck a small wire down down it to loosen the buildup and then just ran water through it.
He was able to unclog the shower heads, which had calcium and rust build-up.  I was billed for 10 hours of time, and the bill came to $895.  When I questioned Ahern-Gross about the amount of the bill, I was told that it was a more complicated project because the shower heads were in-ceiling.  The guy I spoke with (not the plumber that came to the house) was not at all interested in explaining why it was so complicated.  This price still seems pretty steep to me, especially since the toilet issue was not even identified, and he only stuck a small wire down the drain.  If you are hiring Ahern-Gross, I would recommend talking to them about how long the job will take before they start, the bill was very high for clearing clogs.
The plumber was very friendly though.

Plumber arrived on time and gave me a good estimate on cost for time and materials. Remember this was the 4th of July weekend.
Work was done well, and I would be inclined to contact them first the next time I need a plumber.

In both instances it went well. I discussed the water heater symptoms I was having, i.e. leaking from seams in the unit. I chose the unit I wanted based on their recommendations and within the price range I was expecting. We scheduled the replacement within a week. The plumber technician arrived on time, inspected and verified that the current water heater would need replacing. He then placed the call to his office, which delivered the new water heater within the hour, while he removed the old one. It all went very smoothly. I believe that he and his associate completed the job from start to finish in well under 2 hours. They removed and carried away the old unit from our basement, tested the new unit and cleaned up after themselves. When we encountered a problem with a clogged drain below the trap in our basement floor on a weekend, we again thought of them. I called their live answering service, which paged the on-call plumber. He showed up within the hour even though he lived some distance away, along with his helper. He quickly located the clog and snaked it out, which took some doing as it was very stubborn. Again, he cleaned up and we have had no further problems.

The job was done on time and within budget. Answered all questions and called to make sure everything was working. Cleaned up after job was done. Very professional.

The first time we called, we thought our water heater had gone out and would need to be replaced. When the service man came he showed us that is was a switch that tripped and he showed us how to reset the switch. It continued to trip so they suggested we replace it but we really appreciated that he didn't just push to replace it right away (although he offered). When he came the second time, we asked if he had time to complete some other projects we needed done. I realize they can't always adjust their schedule, but he was able to stay and spent an extra hour or so fixing up some little projects since he was there. He was very willing and helpful. We weren't able to and quot;approveand quot; the garbage disposal or the new bathtub hardware prior to installation and we just trusted him to install something suitable. It was perfect,:practical and reasonably priced. It seemed he had a good handle on the style of our house and didn't put in something cheap or extravagant.
We live about 25 minutes from the property and we appreciated the fact that the service provider showed up during the (one hour?) time frame we were told he would arrive.

They did a great job, they installed it well. He was done sooner than when he estimated it to be. When I called in the morning, he said that he would send someone close to noon and he said he was sorry. Gosh, I was just delighted it would be in the same day. They looked at it, explained what he was going to do, he brought the old one out and brought the new one it, he was great.

We bought our house about 6 months ago. Our sewer backed up - NOT FUN! Called Ahrens-Gross and they showed up in about an hour - very pleased that we did not have to wait any longer! They fixed the problem, explained what tree roots can do to the system, told us "since you don't have a history with us and this house doesn't have a history with us it doesn't make sense to do any more than snake it out. If we are back in 6 months for the same problem, we may want to look into something more. If we don't need to come back for five years, then great!" My point is that they didn't push us into anything we didn't really need done. The gentleman even wiped up the stairs before he left. When the bill came we expected it to be higher and were pleasantly surprised (and relieved!) We would definately use them again!

They were supposed to come back and hang the pipes. They never returned. I had them come back to try to get the water turned off in the shower. He managed to get it fixed. I showed him what needed to be replaced. He was polite. He arrived initially saying he didn't have any of the equipment needed. He did do a good job. I called them at 5:30 in the morning, they got here at 11. They do not take credit cards, and plumbers are not cheap. I have to get cash together to pay this.

Originally I was told by another plumber (Mand) that he was unsure of what the problem was as to why I was having water issues in my basement (I believe this). What concerned me was that he was talking about digging up the front yard to check the sewer - digging up the back yard etc. I called Ahern-Gross to get another opinion. Plumber Ken came to the home and said he too couldn't really tell what the problem was but offered inexpensive measures I could take before having to get into (extremely) pricey alternatives. Ken told me to grade around the home (which is needed) and showed me areas that concerned him. He also said I cold extend my evestroughs out more. He then re-did the outside sump pump hose (which Mand did) and extended it out along the deck. He did an excellent job of this. He was at my home for hours, and worked nonstop. He was a hard worker, and would stop to explain things to me but then got right back to work. It seemed as though he understood I was paying for his time and that he should be working not chit chatting. I feel as though the work done was honest and fair, and I appreciated the fact that he offered less expensive alternatives for me to try first. He told me if they fail then he would go from there - but these alternative solutions may just solve the problem. I'm a single woman, so I appreciate it when I feel as though I am being treated fairly and don't feel as though I am being taken advantage of.
