This was a protracted process for several reasons. I was going through a divorce at the time, which complicated things from my end and I did not push for immediate resolution. Another factor was that the hailstorm damaged every house in the neighborhood and most contractors were very busy. I got bids from two builders. I selected Wilcox primarily because two of my neighbors had good experiences with him. We arranged a time to meet and he did a thorough inspection. He also reviewed the other bid I received and looked at the insurance report I had. The insurance had approved replacing part of the siding and painting the whole house. He suggested that for about the same money, I could reside the whole house (no painting). This seemed particularly appropriate to him because he said that there would be difficulty matching the existing siding. He offered to throw in a few extras as well. He submitted a written bid. This was not as comprehensive as the one I received from the other company. I agreed to work with him. I was flexible as to when the work was to be done. He was going to contact me when his work slowed down since I was not in a hurry. Up to this point, he had been quite responsive. He did not get back to me (I had not paid him any money, by the way). When I called, we had some trouble connecting because he was always busy. Eventually, we did set a time and he showed up when expected and the job was quickly finished. So my experience with his punctuality and responsiveness was mixed. When I had his attention, things went very well. The other issue was the insurance settlement. I relied on his advice regarding and documentation in dealing with State Farm. He was a little sloppy about this. As a result, the settlement was slightly less than it might have been. He basically absorbed most of the difference, which I appreciated and thought was very ethical of him. That said, I wish that I had been more on top of the paperwork and that would have worked better for both of us.
