We hired Mike to paint almost the entire first floor of our home, including the ceilings, trim, built-in cabinets, fireplace, & doors. We were given an estimate for the entire job. He came to our home twice prior to starting to make sure all details had been discussed & agreed upon. He worked Sept 26, 27 & 28 (2012). Sadly, he did not complete the job we hired him to do, or the job he bid for us. He painted the ceilings, the living room & entryway walls, & started painting the kitchen. It took him 3 days to accomplish that. He refused to paint the trim, even after we had removed it all per his request. He said that it would be easier for him if he painted it while it was off the wall. He was also supposed to sand & level out the walls & doorways where the trim had been. He refused to paint the built-ins as well. He also refused to prime any of the walls prior to painting them. Mind you, all of these items were in the original bid & agreed upon well before his starting. He ended up painting over all the areas where the trim had been, rather than sanding & smoothing them out. He got paint all over the sashes & sills of the brand new windows we had just installed in our living room. He also painted large globs of dirty paint onto/into the walls of our entryway, & in our hallway. He mixed the paint in our kitchen & got white ceiling paint all over our maple cabinets that will NOT wash off, & in several spots on our tile floor. He also got paint all over our refrigerator. Our kitchen was completely remodeled 3 years ago, so we are not happy for the permanent damage. Our laminate flooring in the living room, dining room & hallway is less than 2 years old & he got droplets of paint all over that as well. When he left for the day on Friday, he left a light fixture over our kitchen sink dangling by the electric cords, & left all of his trash, painting supplies & plastic, taped paper & canvas tarps completely covering our entire home. The only room we had that was not covered or dirty, was our bathroom & bedroom. We called to talk to him about the situation. Both myself & my fiancee spoke with him. He did not want to discuss it, nor did he want to try to work things out. He quit, but prior to doing so, he became argumentative, beligerant, & used an onslaught of profanity & insults for several minutes before we were able to get a word in edgewise. Despite my fiance politely asking him to "please watch his mouth" he continued for several minutes, until my fiance finally asked him to come gather his things the next day. The next day, Mike arrived at our house & totatlly barged into our home. He did not ring the doorbell or knock. He stormed in & attempted to get to the kitchen, however, my fiance escorted him out of our home. Mike was loud & profane & beligerant & it was 7 am on a Monday morning. We have neighbors. Before leaving, he was nice enough to leave us an unbelievably & ridiculous bill. This bill was not itemized, or correct. He listedthings on this bill that he did NOT in fact do, or even START. When asked about the bill, he stated that his charges are per hour, when in fact, the original bid we were given was PER JOB. He told us what he charges per hour & when we "did the math" his calculations were incorrect & he had charged us incorrectly. In any event, he left us with a great deal of cleaning to do & quite alot of permanent damage. He states he has been in business for 38 years, but we find that very difficult to believe. 1 week late we hired another painter. This individual came to our home & was astonished by the amt of damage Mike had done to our home, walls, etc. We are now paying this individual to complete the job Mike was supposed to & to fix all the damage to the walls, trim, etc as well.
