Overall it was simply a terrible experience. After waiting for 5 days, we moved the furniture back in the room so my son could sleep in his new Packer room. The day after moving into the room, I noticed the paint on the bench peeling off. It was not adhering to the wood bench. A few days later my son told me that he could still see blue on his walls. I asked him to show me, and found that like the bench, the paint was peeling right off the walls. You could take your finger nail and run it down the wall and the paint would come off like wax. I called Amy and this time had to leave a message. I asked her to call me back to discuss the work and decide what to do to correct the problem. I called Amy daily for the next 10 days leaving messages for a return call. I tried to reach her via email with no reply. I talked with the indviduals who referred her asking them to tell her to please get in touch with me but have not heard back from her. It has been a month and she has not contacted me. I called Home Depot to see if the paint might have been defective. They all but told me that Amy had no idea what she was doing. They said you never just cover a paint color that bold or glossy without some type of prep work. They said without a primer there was nothing for the color to adhere to. They said my only option was to have the room sanded to have the paint removed, prime and reapply. I tried to stop pay the check but it had already been cashed. Now I need to find a painting service that will first remove the poor work/paint job before even being able to repaint and have the job done the way it should have been done in the first place. I was willing to work with Amy and negotiate compensation for additional time and effort to correct the work she agreed to do but have not received a return call or communication from her. Bottom line - Amy Wulfekuhler is not an experienced painter. She does not know what she is doing. Even more disturbing is her lack of accountability. She is unwilling to stand behind her work and her demonstration of avoidance is something I simply cannot understand. Please do not use Amy's services.
Description of Work: My son wanted to change his fish bowl themed room to a Packer themed room. I knew painting the room would be challenging since the color which needed to be covered was a high gloss deep blue. The room is small with a high ceiling. I decided to hire someone to do the work and went with a referral received from a coworker who provided me with the name of Amy Wulfekuhler. Amy has business cards and lists the name of the business as Painting Services. I called Amy and within a week she came to my house to look at the room and get details for a bid. Amy suggested painting one of the walls Packer green as the accent wall with the other three being Packer gold and the ceiling a white. I asked Amy if she needed paint with primer or a tinted primer given the color on the walls that needed to be covered. Amy was very confident in her reponse indicating that primers/tinted primers were not necessary and a waste. She felt she could cover the walls with two coats of paint. I was surprised but told her she was the one doing this for a living and must know what is needed. Amy indicated that I would purchase the paint and she would provide a bid for the labor. She would be using her own painting supplies. Amy sent me a bid via email which was for two coats of paint at a cost of $150.00 dollars. I also asked her to paint a small wooden bench in the same Packer green with the remaining paint which she indicated she would be able to do for an additional 10 dollars. She said a formal contract was not needed. She was able to fit the job in within a week as it was only to be a one day job. We agreed that I would leave a check for payment of services with my Mother who was in my home when the work was being done. Amy said she would be at the house around 8am and showed up around 8:30. When I got home that afternoon from work, my Mother told me that Amy was planning on coming back the next day to put another coat of gold on the walls since it was not covering the blue. I went into the room and found good lines and good detail - but the paint was not covering. You could see blue behind the gold, the green and the white. I called Amy and she reassured me that while it was taking a bit more paint than she expected, she was confident that one more coat would do the trick and she would be picking up another can of gold paint and come back the next day to complete the job. She did paint the bench and had it drying in the garage. Day 2 - Amy said she would be at the house around 8am and it was about 8:45 when she showed up. When I got home that evening, she had all of her supplies and materials cleaned up and had taken the check for $160.00 which I left for her. I checked the room and you could still clearly see blue behind the gold color. I called Amy again and she said she was planning on coming back the next day to do some touch up. She said she would be needing one more can of gold paint and would be leaving the receipts for both extra cans of paint. Day 3 - I stopped at the house around lunch time to talk with Amy. She said all went well and to let the paint dry for at least 48 hours before moving into the room. I waited 5 days.
