John's was the first of 4 bids we got for this project; his price was not the lowest, but it was definitely competitive. He was however, the most responsive of the 4 companies by far : availability for getting an appointment set up to come by and price the project out himself (instead of sending a sales rep), timeliness in getting us a proposal the very same day, and ease in getting questions hammered out via phone and email promptly throughout the project. He's fun and easy to work with, and we felt lucky to have connected with him.
We were nervous about getting roof work completed in MN in the cold late November, and John was able to move mountains to get things rolling quickly. After getting a couple more comparison bids we called to let him know we'd like him to do the job - he immediately got to work locating shingles that very afternoon and he scrambled his crew of 8 years over here to start the very next morning. It was stunning. He was even willing to drive all over town to multiple stores to get enough special order shingles without delay. Ultimately we decided to go with another brand instead, but he clearly demonstrated a willingness to go the literal extra mile or 10, and I saw that quality multiple times throughout the job. As it turned out that that was the very last warm day this year, and I don't know if John has a direct line to Paul Douglas or what, but he made sure we were able to take advantage of it.
His team of guys (5 or 6) showed up right away the next day and got to work with the tear off. They made quick work of it; meanwhile John and I went out to Edco together to select and purchase the drip edge to coordinate with the soffits and fascia. As I mentioned, we discovered a few weeks prior that our kitchen was venting into the attic crawl space rather than outside, and later that afternoon John ran to the hardware store to personally remedy that while the crew finished up. The entire process, including removal of 2 layers of roofing and clean up, was over and done before 3pm. We told John we have a lot of neighboring kids playing in our yard, and he and his crew did a great job rolling the yard for nails and getting debris up. I found ONE nail, and I'm not even positive it was off the roof to be honest, so I was very pleased with the level of care they took.
We had the gutters done on site on a separate day by a sub, and he did a great job on the install, which was relatively quick and easy. Then we got to the lead abatement and soffit/fascia work, which was 2 days plus about an hour (short days this time of year) and involved all the pain-in-the-butt EPA protocols, which were done to a T. The back soffit is about 4" deep and his subcontractor Tony was able to do custom soffits for us, also same day and on site. He even replaced a missing siding corner for us. I've been up on a ladder installing Christmas lights, and his attention to detail is good.
Overall, we are extremely happy with both the process and the final product. John is a pleasure to work with and when we are ready to do more exterior work he'll be our first and only call.

We gathered 3 quotes. TCR Exteriors' owner, John Harty, provided the only bid that explicitly identified the rotting and leaking problems and had included it in his bid, while the others did not mention it. Instead they had included notes that if there were repair works they would identify it at the time and charge an additional amount above the initial bid. As a result John's bid was the lowest and we appreciated that he'd been straight with us from the beginning. .
TCR was thorough in their preparations, making sure that the color of the new aluminum drip edge matched with our paint and reviewing each step of the process with us. The team arrived exactly when they said they would, worked hard and completed everything the same day, on time. He brought a dumpster on wheels, making it easy to move at the end of the day, and did no damage to our driveway.
The roof is exactly what we had wanted and we are thoroughly satisfied.

Our neighborhood had a terrible hail storm last fall and many of us in the neighborhood feared roof damage. We had an insurance adjuster in today, who went up on the roof to check things out. He told us that other than dents to the vents, the roof was absolutely the best he's seen in a long time. The adjuster was emphatic about how the workmanship on our roof was excellent and the quality of the laminated architectural shingles was top notch. No loose or dented shingles as evidenced by photographs. John and his team are the best!

He came out to do an estimate and climbed onto the roof. He saw wind/hail damage and recommended filing an insurance claim. He met the adjuster there 2 days later; followed up with the adjuster for approval; once approved, he had shingles delivered and his crew there and completed the job in one day. He is ambitious, good at communicating the status of the job, and starts when he says he will and completes the job when he says he will. He did this job for a rental property and also kept the tenant informed of the progress. The tenant was very pleased with the process and outcome.
