Needed to update the flooring in our TV/Dining Room/Kitchen area of our 60+ YO house. The old flooring consisted of carpet and glued down vinyl from I'm guessing very early 70s. After looking at several flooring stores my wife settled on a laminate product from Menards. Normally I would have liked to have done the install myself. But because of time constraints and hassle of existing flooring material removal, I wanted to have a professional take care of it. I got a packet of about 10 installers that Menards recommends (does not guarantee or authorize). After researching on Angie's List and the web, I decide to call 2 for free estimates. One of those was Jim Janikowski. Although he was not reviewed on Angie's List (3 others were and I was not impressed) - I liked the straightforward attitude that his information was presented in the packet. Cost was about the same between Jim and the other guy's estimates. The reason I ended up hiring Jim was because I could tell he knew exactly what he was doing, he hauled away the waste at no extra cost, and he provided the padding that goes under the laminate as part of his estimate. He looked/smelled clean and was prompt, respectful and friendly. Jim let me know exactly how much flooring and what kind of reducers and door jams to buy. He was on time in the morning, and worked full days. He was careful to prep the subfloor thoroughly. He even cut out some of the sub-floor and replaced it because it had been soiled heavily by (I'm guessing) the previous owner's pet at NO EXTRA CHARGE. He advised me on how to install the one of the reducers myself, because it couldn't be put in until I finished the base and quarter round that I did once the floor was in. The job was estimated to take 3 days but Jim finished in 2. He did a great job cleaning up the mess and I'm extremely happy to the workmanship. My father in law (who is an extreme perfectionist) was even impressed by the installation. The floor looks great!
