HUSTAD ROOFING INC

We got bids from a few companies on our roof (a tear-off), and Hustad
was the best on price.  He bid it out aggressively, and he helped us
find ways to spend less and still get what we needed done.
The actual re-roofing took only two days, but the gutters and flashing
took several more days.  Also, when the new roof was put on, the roofers
nailed right through the roof into our beautiful tongue and groove
ceiling.  They had to come back, push the nails up into the roof, and
putty over the holes.  I will have to restain the ceiling.
They were a very nice company, and the price was good.  I would say that
a person needs to be present at the house when any work is being done,
to make sure there are no mistakes.

Overall, the experience was incredibly aggravating and we are still sorting out the details of what went wrong. The day started with the roofers at about 7 am and that was as good as it got--they were on time. However, when I returned home that afternoon by 3 pm, the roofers were already gone. But, there was still a ladder in the driveway, an air compressor, and their work truck. There were nails in the driveway, the flowers were destroyed, the lawn furniture in the back was not put back, there were chunks of pizza stuck to the table, 2 lawn ornaments were broken, and all of the florescent lighting in my garage had fallen down, smashing onto my van and my work tools (16 total). I called Eric at Hustad (sales contact) if someone was going to return to help with clean-up and to get their remaining equipment. He apologized and said they had gotten pulled to do a job in McFarland. I said fine as long as someone came back to help. He said Cesar would be there to help by 6. Cesar never showed and eventually Eric returned with his young son to help me. The work truck and equipment sat in my driveway until 9:15 that night. I would like to say that this was the end of it. However, that fall, I started to get water in my basement and thought it was from the deck I replaced. I did some repairs and thought I had fixed it and let spring come and go. Last summer I realized after replacing some siding that it was actually the roof that was leaking. I did some investigation and found that the drip edge and shingles were improperly replaced which was allowing water to pour down my siding and into my basement. I called Hustad to let them know and did not get a return call. This went on for about 3 weeks when I finally left a message saying I had hired an attorney and needed it resolved. They called back immediately. I was told 3 different times someone would come out and look at it and fix it. They never showed and I stopped receiving calls. I gave up since I needed the leak fixed and called another contractor. The work cost me about $500 but it stopped the leak. I have sinced hired an attorney for small claims but Hustad is hiding behind my insurance company saying they have to pay. My insurance is telling me its my problem to fix with Hustad. I can give you one guess who is going to lose this battle and it's not Hustad or my insurance company.... Overall, an amazingly awful experience. Hustad just wanted the quick work since there were lots of people putting in claims for hail damage. They did quantity overall quality and I got caught in the middle. I would never, ever recommend or use them again.
