UPDATE 12/3/11
I had Erin Washa of Crown Flooring come back to sanitize and deodorize. They also recleaned on 6/29/11. He came in inspected the carpet and it was so wet that he could literally ring out the carpet pad in the lower bedroom. He moisture meter tested the rest of the carpet and found it was off the scale for wetness. When I asked him what the extreme smell of cat urine could be, he said that the smell was the deterioration of the carpet pad since it had been wet. He said that the carpet was unsalvageable because of the pad. He had to tear all the carpet out. I had to clean the floor with Clorox bleach and then paint the concrete floor with shellack product that is very expensive. I had to get a new pad and carpet that was approximately $700. Crown Flooring had to then reclean the whole upstairs of the house. He said that the upstairs was oversaturated too. It wasn't so bad that I would have to replace it though. He ended up having to come back 3 times and did not charge me for the following visits to get the smell out. Carpet Clinic had left a residue that Crown Flooring had to clean 3 times to get it out. The carpet was only 5 years old and it came back looking new again after they fixed it.
The response of Carpet Clinic was not true. I did have fans and the A/C going for 7 days straight. He said that he wanted to come back. I did not want him to come back on my property with a defective carpet cleaner. I decided to then hire Crown Flooring that has a higher class machine. They test their equipment often to make sure it is functioning properly. I think that I know what I am talking about since I have been a commercial property manager for 15 years and a property owner for 28 years.
"I was told by the owner of this duplex unit that after the tenant with a dog moved out the unit smelled like wet dog odor. No mention of urine. I proceeded to pretreat carpets, clean carpets, and used an odor control fogger in each room. I turned on all ceiling fans to get air movement and help dry carpets – it was a very hot humid day! This unit does not have any kind of air conditioning. The owner proceeded to turn the fans off before we left the unit. I mentioned that she should be running a dehumidifier to keep basement dry and from smelling foul. The owner lives approximate 45 away from duplex. On 6/24/11 Member called and said odor persisted. I was willing to come by on Monday 6/28 when she gets into town and instructed her to call me and I will come and see what I can do. In our discussion she mentioned she talked to a carpet store about new carpet for the basement. Member never called for me to come Monday!!! As for the drenched corner of the basement and smell of cat urine – Member needs to talk to the tenant that lived in that unit! Humidity is a big problem also in this basement and if there is so much moisture in air, carpets can’t dry. This issue needs to be taken care of! I have been in business 20+ years and as owner of this business customer satisfaction is very important to me. It’s unfortunate I wasn’t called to come by on Monday – it’s out of my hands!
