Let?s start with the contract. There is one line on the bottom for one signature. Pay attention to that. If you care about having a say in the final product you need to sign it, even if another family member insists on coordinating the project ?for the family.? If you do not sign the contract but design and pay a portion of a memorial and bring a problem forward, you will experience frustration, discrimination and disrespectful indifference. You must accept the memorial ?as is? if you did not sign the contract. This information is not on their website nor was it ever explained to the entire family. I advise selecting a family member or someone with an eye for detail and can differentiate levelness and spacing in text. If the person that signs the contract lacks these abilities, Johnson Monument will not fix the problem(s) or refund money to anyone in the family. Familiarize yourself with the ?Johnson Touch? as described on their website. It does not necessarily apply to all immediate family members or to their workmanship, as I?ve experienced first hand. In this case, Johnson Monument LLC provided sloppy and careless workmanship on both memorials. This company boasts of their ?tradition of excellence? on their website and TV ads. The dictionary definition of excellence is: the state or quality of excelling or being exceptionally good; extreme merit; superiority. They did not produce exceptionally good work. I think they hope the person that signs the contract doesn?t see or care about any errors or poor quality. Read the initial contract carefully as there were numerous errors on that, including the wrong cemetery. After the first memorial was installed, I took some photos straight on. I thought the bronze marker looked crooked and, sure enough, when I added guidelines to the photo I could calculate that it was off by a noticeable 3/8?. Instead of using a level and lining up the bronze with the level base of the slant, they chose to place it cockeyed within the hand-chiseled top serpentine edges, which were uneven. The text on the base was nicely done. The bronze marker should be perfectly parallel with the text on the base but it is not. Skilled, highly-trained professionals would not permanently adhere a bronze marker in this manner. The bronze marker on the second memorial is parallel to the text on the base and looks good. However, the text on the base has 7 commas within the poem. All have one space after each comma except one comma has 2 spaces after it. Skilled, highly-trained professionals would not make this error. Combined cost to the family for these 2 enduring monuments was over $4,000. For this amount of money, these memorials should be perfect (exceptionally good). Is it a fluke that both have problems? Johnson Monument continues to brag of their commitment to excellence, is proud of these examples and takes no responsibility for their work. Their Yellow Pages ad states, ?? Outstanding in Design, in Craftsmanship, in Value.? Based on the workmanship of these 2 memorials, I think they are a jackleg operation. You decide. One last thing, if you send them an email asking that it be kept private, it will not be.
Description of Work: Created 2 matching eternal memorials, one for each parent, between August 2011 and August 2012. Each memorial comprised of a granite slant with a bronze marker, positioned on top of a larger, text-engraved, matching granite base.
