When negotiating the contract for the remodel, we were told that once the project started we were looking at approximately two months for completion excluding countertops, which had to be measured at completion. We were also told that no demolition would take place until all materials were ready for install, excluding countertops and that total time in the house would be two weeks. We signed the contract on 4/20/11 with an anticipated completion date by the end of July since the contractor had an existing obligation to complete. With no communication by the end of June, I called to inquire as to a start date and was told they would be in the week of July 11 to start the demolition work as the cabinets were almost ready. I was pleased as that put completion at the end of July as anticipated. It was clear after that after two weeks that little progress was being made, so I questioned the two-week commitment that was made at contract signing. I was informed by the owner that we misunderstood and that it would be two weeks per project. My husband and I agreed that it was possible we misunderstood and nw expected the project to be complete at the beginning of August. However, we also questioned the commitment to the project. One person did the majority of the work, never arriving before 9 am (usually after) and working about five or six hours per day. The project was finally completed on September 13 only after much threatening on our end. On August 4, when the owner requested another payment, we had him sign a contract addendum indicating that if the project was not done by August 30, excluding countertops, we would deduct $100 per day from the remaining balance. We saw more work done in the three weeks following the addendum signing than we did in the four months leading up to that date. Also, the countertops were in before their work was complete, so countertops did not hold up the project. The quality of the work is good. I did, however, have to ask to have some corrections made to the work that was not done to standard.
Description of Work: Bath remodel included total demolition of an existing bathroom with replacement of floor and tub tile, bathtub, toilet, two sinks and cabinets. Kitchen remodel included the removal of one small cabinet with a sink and installation of floor tile, two cabinets, desk and sink.
