Square One Heating & Cooling

I initially called the Union Grove number for a service call. They said it would be $85 for the service all and $30 every 15 minutes after that. I had researched other companies prior to calling my local Sqare One and they all included the diagnosis in the service call fee. Apparently Square One charged me the $85 just to drive 3 blocks to my house. They were here about 15 minutes, told me that I was out of freon, that I must have a leak, and that it would cost about $650 in freon plus the time it takes to check fo r the leak and fill it. He estimated it would cost me about $2000 or more to refill, add dye, and perform leak search. Also suggested purchasing a new unit. I called a second company who came out about an hour later that same day. They said I was only about a 1lb low on freon, there wasn't a leak, just something that needed tightened, the filter surrounding the unit was completely clogged because it hadn't been cleaned in 20 years. I didn't know I had to clean it, my bad there. The second company cleaned it, added freon, tightened someting up, charged me $300 and left. That was about a month ago. My air conditioner has never worked better. Square One didn't even check the filter. I feel like they were just padding the bill and hoping to get extra money from me for extra freon I didn't need and service work that I found out wasn't even necessary. Maybe they hoped to sell me a new unit.... I don't know. But I'm out $152, I feel they did absoltuly nothing and they are scamming customers who don't know better.

Excellent Experience - this was our first time using Square One Heating & Cooling, LLC and we will continue to be their customer. Steve initially met with us to discuss the issues we were experiencing and he shared the philosophy of his company as a co-owner. We were impressed and decided to go with their proposal for the new boiler (furnace/water heater). Lee (other co-owner) was on site for the installation. They are professional, courteous, and reliable.

This was my 2nd time using Square One and I couldn't be happier. I had them out for a routine furnace tune-up and Dylan diagnosed a nearly rusted out heat exchange. He was great in giving me all my options and not pressuring me into anything, while at the same time stressing urgency in getting the furnace replaced before something bad happened. I acted fast, and Neil and Scott were able to come out only a couple days later (two days before Christmas!) and get the work done professionally and efficiently. They replaced the furnace with a 96% efficient model, which was appropriately priced and a good value with labor and warranty included. Square One had a 5-year labor warranty, which is more than I expected. Overall, Square One exceeded my expectations, acted very professionally and respectfully along the way, and provided exceptional service. They were referred to me by a good friend, and I will gladly do the same for my friends and family if given the chance. Thank you!!

I was in the market for a new WiFi Evolution thermostat. Erica was extremely helpful researching the model I needed for my system, setting up the appointment, and getting me all the documentation I’ll need for a $75 rebate from the gas company. Jeremy did a great job installing the new unit. He walked us through the setup and operation. He is a nice, personable technician. We are new to the Burlington area so, I was happy to find an HVAC company with such friendly and pleasant staff. I look forward to doing business in the future with Square One. I'll be calling back in the spring to set up an appointment to check out my A/C. Thanks again to Erica and Jeremy. It was a pleasure doing business with you and Square One.

Brandon & Cody, the installers, were on time and very courteous. They answered all questions that I had and made sure I understood the features of the new thermostat and took the time to program it to our needs.

It went awesome. They were EARLY, listened to all my concerns, gave me suggestions and helped install window air conditioners in upstairs bedrooms. Fixed some venting issues by closing some off. Gave advice on all issues I was having. Was not trying to do a hard sell. Price came in under expectations!!! Rick was wonderful, knowledgeable and very helpful.

OH MY!!! Where to start?! Steve came out first to give an estimate. Jeremy was next, to give us sample books for stone and quote for a new gas fireplace. WOW! These guys are incredible! They give great service at the best price they can. They will give you 100% of their attention and time!! I cannot say enough good things about them. They are honest and fair, kind and really care about their workmanship and quality. Jeremy is a great trouble shooter. We have probably one of the most challenging homes to work on. Built in 1905 and added on multiple times - it's a maze - but he was undaunted. Climbing up into our attic when it was uber hot!!! He was figuring out how he could best run our poorly designed ducting. He even figured out why we were getting moisture into our basement (another problem we were looking into). Jeremy went above and beyond any call of duty, staying within the quoted cost. He was very aware of our budget. He and Steve gave detailed amounts for the future project of our fireplace. We may need further ducting done in one area of the house, but Jeremy encouraged us to see if our home was comfortable enough with what we have now first so that we do not incur more unneeded cost if we can get by without doing it. I really feel Square One sees their business as a service to others, not just a money making enterprise. That's the kind of people we want to help make our home an inviting place and comfortable place for all who abide here - for us and any of our guests. It was worth every penny - and it wasn't cheap, but we felt it was money well spent.

Standard fan relay accessory for Carrier HRVs did not work for this old unit.  They had to come out a second time with a current-sensing relay that detects when HRV fan is running to also turn on furnace fan.  No part restocking or trip charge for first trip!  HRV now works as it should and keeps condensation/ice off bottoms of windows when it is very cold outside.

Performed service as described. Discussed with me what they were doing and why which I appreciated.

Square One is a small outfit but did their best to match the price of a much larger firm.  They applied $1100 in factory rebates and gave me a 5% senoir discount.  In the end they charged only $140 more than the larger firm but they gave me a 5 year warranty on labor instead on the other firm's 1 year labor warranty.  This extra labor coverage was well worth the extra cost.   The techician was concerned because the heat pump was 9" taller than the old A/C unit  and would block some of the view from a first floor condo below us.  He called the owner of the first floor condo and explained the situation.  The owner not only  approved this taller unit but was interested in getting one for his unit.  They laid tarps down in the areas they had to walk in. They cleaned up everything. They were in and out in only four hours.

On Monday morning, another HVAC vendor had diagnosed and recommended replacement of our furnace to our home warranty company, but they were not responding to my repeated requests for a quote on replacing the furnace a more efficient unit for several days.  Our furnace was declared unsafe, so we had no heat and were using the gas fireplace, electric oven and a couple of portable electric heaters to keep the house warm.

Fortunately, I had started using Angie's List immediately and got quotes from various other HVAC vendors to get prepared for battle with the home warranty company.  SquareOne was recommended by a friend and also checked out on Angie's List.

I called SquareOne Wednesday afternoon but the receptionist said no one would be available until tomorrow.  I pleaded that with her that we had no heat, so she would see what she could do; she called back that Steve would drop by late in the day after finishing up with another appointment.  As promised, Steve showed up that night and prepared a quote on a several options.  His quotes were very reasonable and in the ballpark with those of other vendors.

Steve also works with home warranty companies and advised me to negotiate a cash-out payment with the adjuster directly, rather than wasting time trying to get their bureaucracy to switch the furnace replacement work to him.  Steve also prepared me by correctly estimating how little cash the home warranty company would actually pay out, based on his previous experience with them - he was right!

SquareOne could also do the install that coming Saturday for the same price, where other HVAC vendors had provided "earliest possible" standard install dates well into the following week (one vendor was scheduled out under after Christmas!).  Emergency installs would be nearly double the standard install quote.

SquareOne service techs arrived on-time Saturday morning, as expected, and had the furnace replaced & running in just under 3 hours.  I did some on-line research and wanted Bryant furnace to have its two-stage heating & dehumidifaction modes controlled by our existing Nest thermostat, which required pulling new 7 conductor thermostat cable; the techs hooked everything up and it all works perfectly!

Very professional, very reasonable. They were contracted through my home warranty and did a wonderful job. Our service man came in, diagnosed the problem, and fixed it in about 45 minutes. And the best thing, we have heat again!

Totally professional. Even addressed a problem with my water heater. Did not add any additional cost. When they say "no surprises", they mean no surprises. I highly recommend this company. Gave us the best price, and highest quality service. Thank you.

I don't know much about furnaces and the guy that helped me was amazing. Our condensate pump broke and he was quick to come to the home, quick to fix the issue and even better he spent the time with me to explain what was going on and why. He went above and beyond to explain how our furnace worked and the best setting for our thermostat. And even better, he found a gas leak and fixed it immediately. I will definitely be using then again and again. They got a customer for life with their kindness, going out of their way and quick response. I can't speak to cost bc the repair was through our home warranty.

I was impressed that he came the same day, was punctual, professional and I feel like I can trust him to give me accurate information and a fair price. I had Square One install my furnace three years ago and I totally trust them to give me a fair price and professional service.

I had no heat and called up Square One to make an appointment. Steve was right on time on the day we scheduled. It didn't take long for him to figure out the problem he said it was the pilot assembly, and that it needed a part. He had to go to the shop to get the part and was back in 15 minutes. He put the part in and had it working within a half hour. He also let me know of problems that I may have down the road, and what my options would be. I was very happy with the service. I plan on using Square One and Steve again when the time comes.

The crew arrived right on time and got right to work. They were very careful not to make a mess in the rest of the house by laying tarps to protect the floors when removing the old equipment. They installed the new furnace and had us up and running the first day. They had to return on Saturday morning to wrap up a few details with the A/C but it was only a couple of hours. The new thermostat is fairly complicated, Lee made sure I knew how to operate it before he left. Overall it was a great experience and a huge improvement for our home.
