Where do I start? Things started out fine. John wrote us a bid. Dan stopped by to discuss details after we agreed to the work. One of the doors is set in the foundation and needed the foundation to be trimmed slightly to install it. I showed concern about cutting into the foundation and Dan told me they would cut it and it would look nice. The bid says it includes all materials and labor but doorknobs turned out to be an extra $115 on the day the work was done. This was not a doorknob upgrade, simply doorknobs. Dan left us brochures and wanted us to decide which models we wanted ASAP so he could get them ordered. I called him with the model numbers within 2 or three days. The doors come in 3 weeks later. They show up and start the work - they rip out all the old trim (!) Some of it is original to the house building in the early 1900s. There was no saving it - it was split into pieces and on their junk heap. Then they chipped (!) the foundation instead of cutting it with a saw - it looks absolutely awful. Then the door that went into that opening was too tall so they framed it so that it wasn't flush with the interior wall but set in. Some of the trim is plywood! Some of the trim wasn't even finished. On another door they covered a light switch cover with trim! Then the final blow. We ordered an extra-energy-efficient storm door. They put in a cheaper door with a replaceable screen so I noticed it that afternoon. When I told Dan it wasn't the right door, he insisted that what was on my receipt is what I got. It wasn't. He calls me back and says they ordered the cheaper door because that was what they included in the original bid. Never mind our time selecting the doors we wanted!
Description of Work: They were hired to replace 3 entrance doors and 3 storm doors in our early 1900s brick farmhouse.
