I would not hire THE VILLAGE PAINTER again, nor can I recommend him to others. Despite one of the warmest autumns on record (which is an ideal time to paint exteriors), and many 50 degree (and above) days well into November, the job was left half painted/finished over winter. In fact, the owner (JOHN) attempted to bill me for the half completed job--and that's how I learned that the exterior was going to be left unfinished. At one point, one of his painters (JOHN did/does not do any painting himself) came over to paint in the early morning hours, when frost was still on the surface, and I had to tell the painter to wait until the ice and moisture had dried on the surface to be painted. He told me that he would return in the afternoon when the sun was out and temperatures were above freezing, but he never came back for the rest of that year. He left paint and supplies out of sight and unprotected behind the garage, which then resulted in the paint freezing. Additionally, when I asked them to cover windows to protect them from prepping and painting...they did not, and I needed to remind the painter several times to make sure all concrete surfaces were protected from paint drips. Some areas were caulked--but never primed--with only one finish coat going over it. I am worried that the paint warranty is now compromised, because paint was not applied according to product directions (it states 2 finish coats must be applied at the time of painting {not months between] on the label. This was a very small exterior job, and I feel that JOHN did not take it seriously enough to plan for, and/or complete the job in a timely manner. It was finally completed the following spring (with only one coat/again against product recommendations).

This was the best experience we've ever had with any service provider we're ever hired. John, the owner, showed up promptly to give us an estimate, which was already better than the other painters we contacted. He was honest about the cost, lead time, and potential changes that might increase or decrease the estimate. They were actually able to start the work about a month early (with our consent, of course). On the scheduled day, the crew showed up on time (actually a few minutes early). John stopped by at the start of the project to give the crew clear instructions. Both the crew leader and John kept us informed each day on progress. I was most impressed with their problem-solving; we have an older house, and all sorts of surprises showed up during the project. John and his crew would assess the problem, and come up with a range of solutions (always keeping cost in mind). One fix in particular saved us a lot of money (nailing down some warped cedar siding, when we were ready to have the siding replaced). In the end, the project came in a little less than we expected! At the end of the project, the house looked great, and many neighbors stopped us to mention how great it looked and how professional the crew was. We live in an area where the houses are quite close together, and the crew was always respectful of both our property and the neighbors, and the neighbors really appreciated that. After a few days, we found some minor issues that got overlooked (VERY minor, but we're a little picky). John stopped by and fixed them personally right away. I would absolutely recommend the Village Painter, and will definitely use them again.

Before starting, the entire floor area was thoroughly covered with painting tarps.  There were usually 3-painters at all times.  They also helped move furniture and other items where necessary.
All upstairs walls and ceilings were painted with 2-coats of paint. The bath ceiling needed priming first as did the bedroom walls where the wallpaper was removed. The walls were then sand painted to match.  Because of an old plaster surface, the stairway wall leading to the downstairs needed to be sanded and skim coated twice, then painted twice.  The wall appearance now matches all upstairs walls which I was hoping for.  Additionally, John replaced all the banister supports  (on 2- banisters) with new ones he picked up and did not charge me for these which I thought was nice.
The entire project was completed in only 2 1/2 days which I greatly appreciated around the December holidays.  John and his staff were very courteous, professional and friendly.  They were all very hard workers. They did an excellent job and I am thoroughly satisfied.  I would definitely hire them again.

The project went very well. The team are punctual, professional, and immaculately clean leaving nothing behind. They did a nice job on the minor repairs on the garage. A trustworthy team of people. Did the job when they said they would and for as much as they said it would be.

Great experience. I have used Village Painter before and was very pleased. This time I needed a new wood door varnished. John spent about a week going back and forth with me over email to find a product that did not contain any tree nut oil (tung oil) due to a nut allergy in the house. His emails were always timely and I was thrilled to find a product that would be effective and safe in terms of not having nut oils.

The work was scheduled quickly and Terri did a great job with the application and sanding and was a pleasure to have in our home.

The door looks great and we are very pleased all around.

Every thing went well - painters came when they said they would, and finished on schedule. All painters well mannered and professional. All worked hard and were happy to go over anything brought to attention. Owner inspected quality every day. I am using them again for the exterior - when they have time!

John Domjen was responsive from my first phone call, was able to schedule me in on short notice to complete the job prior to our move-in date, was helpful in advising on plaster repair processes, trim condition and paint selection, and gave a very accurate estimate for work. His team completed the job on time despite more extensive repairs than planned, a delay due to carpentry work on built ins, and repainting one room due to change in color choice once it was painted. His team covered all work areas (even stairs) and even shoveled our walks so they didn't track in snow. He also came in on his estimate with only the addition of materials for added work. They cleaned up all plaster dust and garbage and were very polite. It was a great experience.

Talked to them in the fall, but weren't able to schedule work because of weather. Scheduled work first thing when weather permitted in spring. They arrived when planned and worked consistently until job was done. Checked with us before making more expensive repairs than initially estimated. Finished project looks great!

THE GOOD: The painting was done beautifully, on time, as planned, by John (owner) and his team. I really can't stress the quality of the job enough...expertly done. There were a few negatives to the experience, but I had to select an "A" grade overall, just because the paint job outweighed the relatively minor issues I encountered. THE NOT SO GOOD: There were two negatives to the experience, but only one of which they could have prevented. The first: when they painted behind my refrigerator, they wheeled it out across the hardwood floors in the kitchen and the wheels left light indentations in the floor. Not the best...but not immediately noticeable. The second: the work was done while I was not home due to my work schedule. As a result, they mailed my keys back to me after they were finished with the work (thankfully not to my home address)...but unfortunately the keys never arrived, as they were apparently tampered with in the mail. Not exactly ideal...but I do believe that they were mailed and lost, as not a paper was moved in my place during the painting job, so John and his crew are clearly trustworthy guys. In summary, it wasn't a flawless experience, but I'm happy overall!

I needed to get it painted quickly because I was putting it on the market within a week and he was able to fit it in quickly and just touched up a lot of things that needed to be touched up. He was real friendly and nice person. He was responsible for selling our house because he gets around the neighborhood and paints a lot of houses. He found somebody who actually wanted to get a quote on remodeling their house because they could not find a house that they wanted to buy. He told them about my house, so, they contacted my real estate agents. He is really active in the community, knows people in the area, so, he connected us with the business.

John and his crew did an incredibly thorough job on our house. We continue to get compliments on the paint job. I am a picky customer, so I wanted a painter who was extremely detail-oriented and would do a meticulous job. After watching John and his crew paint a nearby house, I knew he was the painter for us. Our 1927 two-story colonial had a lot of peeling paint. John and his crew did a complete sanding job and primed the entire house. He was also a great help in selecting the color, since I wanted to change it slightly from the previous color. John accommodated every request we made with the highest degree of professionalism and regularly checked with us to see if we were satisfied with all work. John was very easy to work with and I would highly recommend his work.
