Verken Painting

Verken Painting was hired to perform wallpaper removal and painting services. Wallpaper was to be removed from an upstairs and first floor hallway, a stairwell, a kitchen, and a dinette area. These areas were to then be painted. In addition, a first floor living room, dining room, and bathroom were also to be painted. The ceilings in all areas were also to be painted. The contractor used a steamer to remove the wallpaper and did not cover any carpeting and vinyl flooring. The wallpaper paste from the removed wallpaper therefore was transferred to the carpeting and vinyl flooring which we had to manually remove. Once the wallpaper was removed, nothing was done to remove the wallpaper paste that remained on the drywall. The contractor told us multiple times that it was OK to paint right over the paste because the paint he used contained a primer. The contractor did not cover any flooring and furniture when he painted, so paint splatter was found on all uncovered services. This had to be manually scraped off furniture and vinyl flooring and carpets had to be cleaned. The walls with wallpaper paste on them looked terrible after painting. The surface was very uneven and many grooves were present because of painting over the wallpaper paste. Verken Painting did not respond to any of our calls and emails to fix the problems we had. In addition to all the work we had to do removing wallpaper paste and paint splatter, we had to hire another painting contractor to fix the paint job that was done over the wallpaper paste, which was a significant expense. A Small Claims Court action was filed against Verken Painting and our requested judgment amount against the contractor was approved by the Court, but so far Verken Painting has not paid us.
