I feel like I was managing the construction, constantly having to contact R Tews to find out what was going on. It appeared to me that we were only scheduled after I made contact with them, week after week.
We had many things go wrong, some things were fixed after I pointed the mistakes out.
Some of my largest complaints are the flooring, ( the contractor mis calculated the tiles needed to repair an area that was going to need replacements, causing us to have to tear out all of the kitchen and dining room flooring that we had just recently installed) Windows ( the top ones were framed 3 different times, only to end up with a design that I did not contract for) foundation, (they tried to repair our foundation, they did a terrible job, months later the repair failed and we had water in our basement?.We have never had a wet basement before) the lack of communication, ( I can't begin to tell you how horrible it was, I truly believe the construction manager had too meanprojects going on and we were not a priority.
They also demanded payment in full, prior to repairing many things that they had promised to fix.
"Concerns & Resolutions For over 25 years, we at R. Tews Construction have built our relationships and reputation on high quality materials and service. We greatly appreciate feedback, as it gets absorbed internally – throughout the company and the sub-contractors – and we use that information to do better. Any experience that is less than ideal is of high importance and concern. R. Tews addressed and resolved these customer concerns in reference to the addition/remodel project: 1. Patio door: The weather stripping at the junction of the latch was gapped 1/8” from the frame. Under warranty, the Anderson service technician disassembled the door, installed all new weather stripping, and made necessary adjustments for a tight fit. The customer acknowledged being 100% satisfied after the service. 2. Yard work: The addition was on the back of the home, which required construction vehicles (concrete truck and excavator) to travel across the side lawn and into the back yard. At the end of work, black dirt was brought in and hand-raked to smooth out the areas where the construction vehicles traveled, at no charge to the homeowner. R. Tews Construction adheres to all construction and remodeling laws, including the Right to Cure. Details of this law, and others, can be read at: http://wisbuildblog.org/right-to-cure-law-use-it-or-lose-it/"
We had this done about 14 years ago so some of the details escape me now but after investigating and talking with several remodelers we decided to go with Randy Tews. We had a ranch style house that we had him do an addition to the front and a 3 season room on the back. We also essentially gutted the main floor of the house and rebuilt it with larger rooms and a new kitchen/dining areas.
14 years later we are very happy with the quality of work that was done. There was lot of reinforcement of new foundation done when as they were digging for it small amount of water was found and we have not had any settling of that new portion of the house.
My only complaint at the time of our project was timeliness of the progress. At times a week or two would go by with nothing getting done on our house. I think that they were also doing some work for RCU at the time and if that project needed more workers then we did not get anything done on ours. We were living in our basement when the remodeling was going on in relatively cramped quarters so we were anxious to have daily progress and communication about when things would be going again were limited.
There were a couple items where we wanted something done a certain way and changes made along the way so some cost overruns but nothing that wasn't explained ahead of time.
Overall we were very happy with the quality of the finished product and would recommend R.Tews for anyone thinking of remodeling.
"Thank you for your patronage and we all enjoyed working with you both very much!"
"Creating a new kithen design, in collaboration with this client, was enjoyable and we worked very well together. A big Thank You for trusting me and for helping with inspiration."
Jessica is second to none at her trade. Together with Randy Tews, they thoughtfully created and carried out a design that meets our needs, desires, and living style.
We were always comfortable with the staff of R Tews. They are very skilled at and proud of what they do and it shows. They were respectful of our home and family. I appreciated the and quot;easinessand quot; of having them in our home during the remodeling.
In summary, we are delighted with the high quality remodeling work that we had done by R Tews. He has a wonderful and skilled crew who take care of you and your home through the whole process. The end result is more than we could have hoped for when we started the project.
"Because of the openness allowed for creative ideas, this project definitely reflected the clients personality and improved their daily living. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and support during the remodel."
"Our company strives to make sure all of our customers are taken care of and we believe honesty is the best policy. We are somewhat bewildered by this report. R. Tews Construction is very sorry for the way this Member feels about her remodeling experience. We always try to make all of our customer’s remodels goes as smooth as possible. The contract was signed in January of 2005. The work started within 30 days of signing. In addition to the original scope of work there was multiple change orders signed, the last in April. The changes orders alone added 22 days to the project itself which took about 6 months. Every time a change order is signed; new materials have to be ordered. Once the product arrives, R. Tews employees and subcontractors are then rescheduled accordingly. We do perform several projects at one time so scheduling can sometimes come into play especially when customers have additional change orders. The way R. Tews Construction operates its company is that we have our own prep, framing, and finish trim employees. There are licensed subcontractors who do perform work for R. Tews such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC and this is required by State Law. These are subcontractors that are skilled in their profession, and we have a good working relationship with them. The original scope of work in the basement included saw cutting for reworking the plumbing and egress window. This can be a challenging procedure in a confined environment such as the basement. Precautions are taken for all employees during this procedure. Smoke alarms can sometimes be tripped because of the dust and smoke from the saw cutting. The employee was never admitted to ER as stated nor did he have any ill or adverse effects from saw cutting. Getting fresh air outside would be normal after being confined in the basement saw cutting because of wearing a dust filter mask and the fumes of the saw. When Members’ kitchen was down for her remodel, R. Tews purchased a temporary sink and installed it for her convenience so she would have a working sink to help ease one of the challenges of not having working kitchen. We have an open book policy at R. Tews construction and we do a final job cost breakdown at the end of every project and sit down with the client to review, so every client is aware of costs. R. Tews also will gladly furnish any invoice copies to the customer upon request. We bill invoice plus Profit and overhead so there are not any hidden costs for allowance items such as plumbing, electrical, flooring, and HVAC etc. A customer’s final selections of product can add additional costs for their project. This is an overage for the project and an additional cost to the customer."
