He fixed the problem after showing me the cause and the options for repair.
He charged absolutely nothing because, even though the roof was put in by him 14 years ago, "We take responsibility for our work."
Heck - it was not even his fault - it was a mechanical failure on the vent itself!
I wouldn't think of recommending anyone else...not with this kind of service ethic!
These guys are professional. They didn't have any creepy guys working on it. You always worry about when your gone are they going to scope out your place and break in. Stewart was great. He is very conscientious. He is easy to get ahold of and very responsive. Constant worksite supervision he doesn't do the work himself he has a crew do it.
"[member name removed], Thank You for the kind words. I have to say was just thinking about your roof the other day and if those pesky woodpeckers have tried getting through those heavy asphalt shingles... Sincere Thanks, Stu"
We first met Stuart Evans (proprietor) when our home was being renovated, and he repaired all of the damaged cedar shake tiles to get us through the winter. During the renovation, extensive stains of the drywall and under-carpet flooring were discovered in one of the bedrooms. Inspection of the roof and neighboring chimney revealed that the chimney flashing that had been caulked by the previous owner rather than properly repaired. Stuart Evans spent many hours rebuilding the chimney flashing to prevent a leak. His charges for these two pieces of work were extremely reasonable, and we indicated that he would be our first choice to replace the old shake roof with composite roofing.
In the spring of 2010, we sat down with him and discussed the options. We had consulted Consumer Reports for possible roofing tiles and settled on CertainTeed Landmark TL. He gave us an estimate, which we revised several times to keep the costs down. We got onto his schedule and work started in July. Work on the roof started at 6:30am and ended when the heat almost melted the roof tiles. Every day, his workers cleaned up pieces of wood and any nails (with a magnet) all around the house. Work had to be stopped a couple of days because winds > 30mph kicked-up. During this processes, we also made some midcourse corrections to the plans. Instead of installing a large number of roof vents, which would mar the cedar shake-style roof, we asked Stuart to install ridge vents, and later we would add more soffit venting around the entire house to balance the airflow. Finally the roof was finished, and there were several sheets of plywood left because the work had produced far less than the calculated waste. Everything was done that was in the contract and promised verbally. Stuart Evans inspected all of the work and got our approval.
He does quality work for a fair price. Moreover any construction waste is removed so all that his final product shines. I would not hesitate to recommend him.
