The best thing about our experience was having them help us get the service we needed, which in the end was not done by them. It was not a mechanical/transmission problem and they referred us to someone who could help us. We would definitely go back to Argo~

I needed to change an engine in my car so I called ARGO Transmissions and spoke to the owner (Steve Nokes) who assured me they could do the job in a timely fashion. I asked for an estimate of costs but Steve said they would need to see the engine and the car, so I arranged to have the engine sent to ARGO. When the engine arrived I brought the car to the shop and again asked for an estimate. It was far higher than any other shop in this small town, so I said I declined to have the work done at ARGO.
I returned with a pickup to get my engine and was told I couldn't have my engine unless I paid $100 for and quot;feesand quot;--Steve claimed he had invested a lot in my job and that I owed $100 for his trouble. The truth is he invested nothing other than allowing my engine sit in a corner of his shop for less than 24 hours. He was angry that I declined to use his shop, and his attitude changed to full animosity.

I offered him $20 for the time my engine sat in his shop. He saw I was getting equally angry, and we settled for $50 for his and quot;feesand quot;. I felt he caused this problem by refusing to give me an estimate until after he had some leverage (my engine) and then when pressed he admitted his prices often rise after the job is started and there is no upper limit. Steve said he and quot;doesn't work cheapand quot;--and proved it in our brief exchange. In the end it cost me $50 to find what kind of shop is run by Steve Nokes. My advice-- be very cautious of this shop. Nokes runs his business with a freewheeling style, and will take advantage of anyone he sees fit to manipulate.

Steve is excellent to deal with and very knowledgeable. The whole experience was a pleasant one.
