They were on time. The work they did look great at first. However 4 weeks later the weeds had grown back. It was obvious they had just cut the weeds down in the arborvitae instead or removing them. Weeds were also growing in the rock pathway they laid although a weed barrier was place down. Before they left they had rinse the rocks off after they were place which just create a mud and dirt path for weeds to grow. I call three times and each time was told they would be back to redo the work and would call me with a time. They never called back. I recommend you find someone else. Any company that will not stand by their work should not be in business.

We DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone hire this landscaping company due to our very negative experience as stated below. If the owner, John, had been responsive to our concerns then we would rate his company higher. However, we have given him a year to return to our home to rectify the situation and he has never contacted us.
On March 2, 2013 the owner came to our home to discuss the hardscape and landscaping work we desired. We were very impressed with his knowledge and the statements he made about the quality of his work. He also stated he would be onsite to oversee the work being done.
We are disappointed that John was never onsite during the work. There was lack of communication between John and his employees. The workers were very conscientious and hard-working, but it was apparent the scope of work had not been communicated to them. On numerous occasions, I had to explain and show the workers what we wanted done. It appeared that the rough sketch given to us when John first visited our home was the only instructions they received. They were not aware of the type of material to be used or the exact dimensions of the sidewalk/paver area and the landscaping beds.
The stamped concrete sidewalk turned out very nice and was completed as promised. However, the flagstone walkway/patio is unacceptable. Our desire was to be able to roll the trash can over the pavers to the gate, but it is impossible to do as the flagstones are placed too far apart. Also, the area is not level. It rises up from the level of the stamped concrete sidewalk and is also higher in the center meaning it slopes toward the house instead of away from it.
We decided we were going to try to add more flagstone pavers ourselves so we could use the area as intended. However, when we removed the first two rows of flagstone and crushed river rock and pulled back the landscape fabric, we discovered the area was very uneven (almost like moguls). We were very surprised to discover the area had not been excavated nor had a proper base layer been installed. The landscape fabric had just been placed on top of the existing ground where the old brick pavers had been. The area had not been properly prepared prior to the brick being laid which is why we wanted it redone.
We called Ace Landscaping several times to ask that someone come out and look at the flagstone area. Our calls were ignored. Finally we were told by the office assistant that John wanted us to write a letter stating what we wanted him to do. As ridiculous as that sounds, we complied and wrote a letter and included photos of the area. The letter was sent June 16, 2013. We called once a week for several weeks and the office assistant gave us numerous excuses. No one has ever come out to see the inferior workmanship.
We have given John ample time and opportunity to fix the problem. We waited until now to provide a review as we hoped he would stand behind his work. This is an excerpt from his own website:
"Our business is doing high end custom work, their will be no corners cut. I have been doing paver jobs for well over 20 years. I have taken my job more than just a few steps above and beyond what the DIY shows, or the books will tell you."
Unfortunately, corners were cut on our job and the work is inferior to any DIY show!!

Exceptionally well: out of over 100 arborvitae trees we only lost 1...can't beat that! Professional workmanship; worked with me (I have lots of opinions); made suggestions. Highly recommend

The initial contact, design, and estimate were done in a professional matter. John worked with a design I had in mind, made suggestions that were improvements in the overall design and recommended materials Removed old driveway and walk, removed plants. Designed new configuration. Poured and stamped colored concrete for new steps, walkway, and driveway. Also redesigned and did the concrete work for a back patio in colored concrete. Moved sprinkler lines to suit new configuration patterns. The work was mostly accomplished by a crew who were competent and careful in their work. John (the owner) was sometimes difficult to reach on the phone, but he did reply to every query. He was also on hand to help when there were weather issues which were delaying the work. They did a good job of cleaning up and hauling away all of the old concrete and other materials. They were very careful to keep the concrete areas covered when rain interrupted their work.

When we later had a problem with a crack that developed, John returned, repaired and sealed the area.

It has been a couple of years now and the work has held up well. We get lots of compliments on our entry way and a lot of comfortable use from the backyard patio.

He was quick to start and then everything went very slowly. He did not want to provide cost details of material or adjust fees when work was completed in less than half the time he had estimated. I found his workers starting to pull up sidewalk after I told him the sidewalk was fine, and installing a small retaining wall where I told him none was needed. He did not pick up the fencing material when it arrived at the local retailer and kept telling me it was not there. After I called the retailer to check on the reason for the 6 week delay I was told that my fence had been sitting there waiting for pick up for several weeks. Unfortunately, it was not the height I had ordered, and there was about a third more material needed. I then told John that I would hire someone else install the fence and I paid him off. John has a temper and did not handle the situation calmly or professionally. John had estimated it would take two guys four days to install the fence. The man I hired to replace John did the work by himself in 1 day.

I am happy to comment on the services that have been provided to us by Ace Landscaping. We first met John in 2005 when we decided to enlarge our brick paver patio. We found him to be very knowledgeable and helpful in what we wanted done. He and his crew members are prompt, hard working, and clean up after themselves. Over the years they have installed a sprinkler system, planted flower gardens, and have laid sod, all according to the design we requested. They answer any questions that come up. I recommend them highly and know that any work needed done, would be done well.
