I ordered through my contractor to have some gravel delivered for a gravel road. I called Vashon Sand and Gravel and gave them my credit card information. Later my contractor ordered the material and time for delivery. Vashon Sand and Gravel delivered on time. The Price for the gravel broke down as follows. 14.21 tons of Crushed Surface Base at $24.00 per ton, $75.00 delivery fee, $14.21 environmental fee, and $37.00 tax for a total of $467.25. The delivery fee is reasonable but the cost off the product is high due to the isolation of Vashon Island and the knowledge that it costs $67.85 for a single dump truck plus wait time for a ferry to get the material on the island. An hour away, the material cost $9.75 a ton from ICON in Auburn. The gravel pit only produces this and 5/8" minus. Any other material in imported to the island and is very expensive.
