I needed Red to do my job last minute, over the course of a week or so. He actually managed to do this despite being really booked. For me this was a great experience because my need for expediency was met. Workmanship was great.

Rhett bid the job in June 2016. We needed to order a custom window. This pushed the job out until the weather was no longer cooperating. In November 2016, we discovered the leak around the second window and called Rhett in to look. At that time he indicated that the second window replacement was not an issue. In February 2017, I called to verify that we were still on his list once the weather dried up. I was assured that Rhett and his crew were ready to go when we were. Fast forward to the end of April 2017. I began trying to get a hold of Rhett to schedule the work. First, there was no response to either texts or phone messages. Finally after a week, I resorted to calling the other number on the website to see if there was an issue. Rob answered. The following morning, I received a text from Rhett explaining that he didn't want the liability of replacing the windows on our house. We are now sitting on thousands of dollars of windows and a door without an installer. While I respect any craft person's right to refuse work, especially if it is beyond their capability (although replacing a window, even a leaky window, should be well within a contractors' capability), I do not appreciate being left scrabbling to find a contractor during construction busy season. Rhett could have easily let me know in February that he was no longer interested in the job. I find the lack of professionalism worthy of a 'D', 'F' rating.
Description of Work: We needed to replace our second story siding and, originally, one window. After discovering a leak around the frame of a second window, we added that to the scope. We also decided that the door leading to the deck should be replace, a relatively easy replacement job.

THEY DID A GREAT JOB !! I WAS UNHAPPY WITH A COUPLE BOARDS THAT HAD A COUPLE KNOT HOLES IN IT, AND I KNOW PRESSURE TREATED WOOD HAS IT; BUT I CALLED THE OWNER (RHETT) ANYWAY, AND TOLD HIM ABOUT IT.. I KNOW THE DECK IS ALMOST A YEAR OLD; BUT THE KNOT HOLES BUGGED ME. HE CAME OUT RIGHT AWAY, AND THEY REPLACED THESE BOARDS FREE OF CHARGE. I DO NOT KNOW ANY COMPANY THAT WOULD DO THIS. THIS COMPANY HAS GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE . WE WOULD RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE ! THANK YOU FOR A VERY NICE LOOKING DECK !!

Description of Work: RR custom has done a couple home improvement projects for me. The most recent was expanding and framing the opening into an existing addition. They did the same thing with the entrance to the hallway from the living room. They also installed a sliding barn door in my little half bathroom. |The skill & craftsmanship that RR construction provides is fantastic. I find Rob to be a great contractor. He is a perfectionist, and really keeps projects moving smoothly from start to finish. He will always be my go to contactor. And the crew has always been fantastic. |

I had 4 different quotes from various contractors on this job. Rob's quote was the most comprehensive quote. Rob explained each of the subcontractors responsibilities and the quotes they submitted so we knew up front what the costs were going to be for each subcontractor (i.e. electrical, drywall, painters, Rob's portion) before we agreed to hire Rob. There were no surprises EXCEPT The job completed $600.00 under the quote! The job started and completed as planned, Rob was very good at keeping me posted to where we were in the project and what to expect next. He was very prompt to arrive and his jobsite was clean at the end of each day, Rob and his crew were always a pleasure to talk with, very professional and personable! They work extremely hard. The quality of detail and craftsmanship that went into the floors, molding and trim work were excellent, down to the last detail. The room is absolutely beautiful! I couldn't be happier with the final results. Rob tried his best with every request or concern I had to help me create a great living space! Thank you to Rob and his crew.

I live in the center unit of townhouse triplex, with a very small (15’x20’) back yard, which slopes away from the house. Since yard maintenance would be problematic, I decided to deck most of the area. I hired RR Custom to do the work and I am so glad I did. The bid was competitive, but that where any comparison to other contractors ends. Rob (owner) did the work himself and was extremely knowledgeable and a highly skilled craftsman. He worked quickly and efficiently. I had a general idea of what I wanted, but Rob turned my dream into reality. Instead of just a deck, I now have a covered porch, surrounded by cedar fence, which act as both the walls for my retreat and well as establishing privacy. This is truly a space to be used year round now… it has become my sanctuary. I HIGHLY recommend Rob and RR Custom.

They were great. They didn't give a hard number for the price. He was really a creative person and we really like that. We tell them the kind of what we wanted and they were able to take it, expand on it, explore and come up with other ideas but I think the bottom line was that the other company gave a detailed bid and we knew exactly what they are giving. The pictures they showed us were great. They got back to me.

We purchased our home in 2011 and after living here for a year, decided to upgrade the mudroom. We were looking at extensive alterations – relocating the washer/dryer, adding a shower, replacing all cabinets with cherry, tile floors, granite counter tops – and did due diligence in looking for a contractor as we knew it would be a sizeable investment. After a lot of research, getting quotes, and calling references, we chose RR Custom. The quote was the easiest to understand and was broken down such that fixed price work and budgetary allocations were clearly identified and it was relatively simple to see if everything was included in the estimate. Rob was our general contractor. He was here essentially all the time any of his subs were here. He did the framing and tile work while his subs did the plumbing, electrical, granite, and cabinetry. Everything has been first rate. We ended up choosing some items that were in excess of the estimates but that was our choice. Rob was very easy to work with and promptly addressed any items we brought to his attention. After working with him for some time, we were pleased enough to give him additional, unrelated work adding an enclosure to our barn. When the weather clears up enough to work outside (best done when not in driving rain), we’re going to have him do some siding / deck repairs. We have been very satisfied with the quality and pricing of the work and with the general experience of working with Rob and will bring him in for a quote for any future modifications / additions to our house.

I called RR Custom to get an estimate on finishing work on our kitchen project. He said he would come on the following Sunday to give us an estimate. I asked him to call me in that morning to let me know about what time he would be there. He did not call us Sunday morning so I called him and left a message on his voice mail that we had someplace to go. He never called back that day to leave a message and he hasn't called since. I would prefer to be told at the outset that someone is not interested in the job rather than setting an appointment date and not showing up.

The process went very well. We had 4 companies out to give a bid. We were impressed right away with the professionalism they have. They solved possible problems before they even had contract. They started when they were supposed to. They were on time and worked quickly. They solved any problems that came up quickly. They got the needed inspections when needed. It was a very easy time working with them. Gave good suggestion on different aspects of the job. They finished when they said they would. They cleaned up completely when they were finished.
Description of Work: Completed putting in a basement. Gave an accurate estimate. Worked to save us money whenever possible. Solved possible problems before being offered a contract. Worked well with us each step of the way. Their crews were professional and also worked well with us each step of the way. The finished basement is great. We are very happy with the service they provided and the work that was performed. They finished by the estimated completion date. They return anytime we have a question.

RESULTS We selected RR Customer Exteriors based upon quality of work they did on a master bath remodel project and a kitchen remodel project they did for us. For both of those projects we were impressed at the level of detail and cost transparency of their project bids and the total project cost. Other RR Customer Exteriors reference projects we inspected were major projects with budgets well over $100,000. We found that the structural building changes, plumbing and electrical work were well executed from interviews with the reference customers. We noted ourselves that the finish carpentry, cabinets and tile work was of the same exceptional high quality we found during our and quot;Street of Dreamsand quot; house tour we did a few months before. RR Customer Exteriors provides more detailed bids with respect to labor, materials and cost than other contractors we have worked with. We wanted high end materials and the R and R materials budget proved to be very accurate. RR Customer Exteriors charges contractor cost for materials with no markup. The RR Customer Exteriors project bid was completely transparent in identifying all project costs in detail. This provided my wife and I with much reassurance during the project. A formal change order process was used to track all project changes. The project was completed on schedule, under budget and with a high quality of workmanship. The deck was done precisely to plan. RR Customer Exteriors does their own general carpentry and finish carpentry. All these areas were completed with a superior level of fit, finish and overall quality. The project was completed under budget if you take out the additional finish work done in the garage that we requested that was on a change order. People who have seen the new deck have complemented us on their workmanship, design and quality of the materials used. We plan to use RR Custom Exteriors for our future home remodel projects and will be recommending them without reservation to our friends and relatives.
Description of Work: DECK REBUILD PROJECT Our project was to replace and double the size of our deck on our 1974 house. We wanted a combination of steel cable railings and low benches to give us the best views of our views of Mt. St. Helen's and Mt. Hood that we have from our deck. Under the deck we have a walkout lower level with cement patio sliding glass door and several windows that we wanted to have clear site lines with no deck support pillars obstructing our views. Deck upgrades included cedar deck deck boards, "no show" hidden deck fasteners, aluminum/stainless steel cable railings and two propane gas ports. RR Customer Exteriors used an engineered glue laminated beam for the supporting beam over the patio and hung the deck joists on to it. This design approach maximized the head room over the cement patio and reduced the support pillars to two. A similar approach was used to eliminate deck support pillars in front of two lower floor windows. RR Customer Exteriors shopped for premium cedar deck boards at several suppliers and found almost clear tight knot cedar planks. The RR Customer Exteriors designs decks that have 4 x 10 pressure treated lumber for deck joists and cross beams resulting a heavy duty supporting structure which will last many decades without structural problems. The deck had exceptional finish carpentry details as found in the elegant single post support bench/railing, the "picture framed" stair steps and "extended grip" cedar railing.

RESULTS We selected RR Custom Exteriors based upon quality of work as seen at work site visits of their past customers, the level of detail and cost transparency of their project bid and the total project cost. We performed a review with the same criteria with five contractors and RR Custom Exteriors proved to have the highest quality workmanship and the lowest cost of the group. The RR Custom Exteriors reference projects we inspected were major remodel projects with budgets well over $100,000. We found the structural building changes, plumbing and electrical work were well executed from interviews with the reference customers. We noted ourselves that the finish carpentry, cabinets and tile work was of the same exceptional high quality we found during our and quot;Street of Dreamsand quot; house tour we did a few months before. RR Custom Exteriors provided the most detailed bid of any other supplier. The bid had precise to labor and materials specification and respective costs for each. The labor cost break out included the R and R Construction labor and the labor cost for each sub contractor for such areas as plumbing, electrical, sheet rock and cabinets. Materials costs were provided as an allowance for each material item based on what level of quality the home owner selected. We wanted high end materials and the R and R materials budget proved to be very accurate. RR Custom Exteriors charges contractor cost for materials with no markup. They also allow you to buy your own materials if you find a supplier that offers a better or more cost effective product. We shopped for all own light fixtures and bath towel racks for example. R and R Construction gave us advice on our material choices as to their durability and ease of maintenance. The RR Custom Exteriors project bid was completely transparent in identifying all project costs in detail. This provided my wife and I with much reassurance during the project. A formal change order process was used to track all project changes. The project was completed on schedule, under budget and with a high quality of workmanship. The plumbing and electrical work was done precisely to plan. The RR Custom Exteriors cabinet sub contractor did excellent work in building the cabinets to our exact specifications. The quartz countertops and under mount sinks both were installed perfectly by the RR Custom Exteriors sub contractor. RR Custom Exteriors performs the general carpentry, finish carpentry and tile work for the project. All these areas were completed with a superior level of fit, finish and overall quality. The project was completed under budget if you take out the cost to replace the water pipes for the entire house which was a change order. We had some minor repairs completed after the project was done. These included one fan motor replaced and some new grout where the tile merged with counter top. All were done within 30 days of the completion of the project to our complete satisfaction. People who have seen the new bathrooms have complemented us on their workmanship, design and quality of the materials used. We plan to use RR Custom Exteriors for our future home remodel projects and will be recommending them without reservation to our friends and relatives. LESSONS LEARNED Lessons learned on this project were that a home remodel project requires the home owner to be responsible for these areas: 1. New area floor plan. The home owner or an architect will need to create a plan to include changes to walls, doors, cabinets and fixtures. Your contractor can advise you in these items, but you are ultimately and legally responsible for the decisions. We should of had an architect review the plans we created using home design software. An architect would have told us to move a new door a couple more inches away from an existing door. It was not a major mistake as the bath entry and exit flow still works well. 2. Lighting Design. Again, the home owner is responsible for the lighting design. We put in a couple more recessed lights than we needed. If we had do it over again we would have gone to light fixture supplier for a review. We found later that the supplier will do it for free or for a small amount that can be applied to the cost of the light fixtures 3. Room Design. Your contractor can help but you are responsible for the final decisions. If you don't want to do this you may want to hire a professional. Your contractor may have one to recommend. We designed the room ourselves with the help of a contractor's material supply store. The store was not like a big box store such as Home Depot. It was about the size of a Walgreens drug store and had the most popular 20% of commercial quality flooring, tile, carpet and other materials. The store had large tables so that we could layout samples of all our key materials to determine how the color and textures blended together. My wife and I were very satisfied with the final bath design.
Description of Work: BATH REMODEL PROJECT Our project was to convert one master bathroom in our 1974 house into two "his and her" bathrooms that was completed in March of 2012. Walls had to be relocated and the bath tub location moved and new tub installed that was a full function Jacuzzi tub with heater. Additional plumbing items included a new "her" toilet and a new "his" bath vanity. Electrical upgrades included recessed lighting, sconce light fixtures, multiple function ceiling fan, light and heater units and heated floors controlled with a programmable thermostat. The vanity cabinets were custom made of knotty alder with full extension under mount soft close guides. Cabinets had full plywood construction with solid wood drawers with dove tail joinery. The drawers were 18" deep to optimize vanity storage. The bath design included two vanity cabinets with 8 drawers each, a linen cabinet and two over the john cabinets. We selected a quartz counter tops with under mounted sinks. We selected a tile layout similar to what we saw on our "Street of Dreams" house tour. The tile design included porcelain tile floors, back splashes, tub stall and shower stall with an accent band of glass tile around the vanities, tub stall and shower stall. The shower stall was upgraded tile base and a 3/8" frameless shower door. The stain and finish used on the wood work was close match to the existing 35 year old finish found on the current trim. The two new sliding pocket doors were installed and finished to blend in well with current house. Two windows and two doors were refinished to look as new as the new trim. The finish carpentry was done by RR Custom Exteriors and was done with precision joints and door alignment resulting in trim and doors having high quality look and function respectively. The original galvanized and iron water pipes in the house were rusting so we had them replaced with new plastic pipe and also replaced the water heater.

The architect told us to allow 48and quot; for the new hall, around the dining room table and around the island. By repositioning and resizing both the dining room table and island to follow this recommendation we created a spacious two cook kitchen design. 2. Lighting Design. Again, the home owner is responsible for the lighting design. We had two light designers from separate lights fixture suppliers review our lighting plan we created using a home design software package. We learned allot about recessed light placement and recessed light fixture selection from both light designers. The final light design turned out to have a spectacular effect on the kitchen. The only design parameter we would of done differently would be to eliminated some of the switches by bundling lights. For example we would have put the under counter lights, cabinet lights and the buffet task lights on one switch versus having a switch for each light type. Likewise we would have put all the island lights, hanging pennants and recessed task lights, on one switch instead of using one switch for each type. 3. We spent more money than planned for the upgraded granite counter top, but found it was well worth the investment because of the additional and quot;wowand quot; factor it added to the kitchen design. My wife and I were extremely satisfied with the final kitchen design.
Description of Work: KITCHEN REMODEL PROJECT Our project was to convert an over size utility room in our 1974 house into a dining room and standard size laundry room along with a complete kitchen remodel that was completed in May of 2012. Two load bearing walls had to be replaced with beams so that we could have the kitchen integrated into a contemporary "great room" design with our living room. We had to relocate the kitchen door to the garage and a pantry to accommodate the new floor plan. A utility sink, toilet and laundry plumbing hook ups had to be relocated. Electrical upgrades included recessed lighting, under counter lighting, cabinet lighting, new light fixtures, low voltage accent lights and new stainless steel vent. We replaced the dated electric range with a gas cook top and a separate cabinet built in electric oven and microwave at eye level. The kitchen cabinets were custom made of knotty alder with full extension under mount soft close guides. The kitchen design required 40 cabinets. They were used to construct a standard kitchen "L" counter, a large island with an integrated breakfast table and two buffet counters. All the cabinets had full plywood construction with solid wood drawers with dove tail joinery. The drawers were within 1" of the back of the back of the cabinet to optimize storage. We followed the cabinet maker's recommendation and had special steel shelves installed for the blind corner cabinet and had a "pop up" electric mixer shelf installed. We selected a granite counter tops for all counters with an under mounted sink for the "L" counter. We decided to have a utility cabinet added to each of two closets to replace all the boxes on the top shelf. For the back splash over the cook top and behind the vent we followed our contractor's recommendation and used a piece of the granite used for the counter top. The other backsplash areas used a highly polished porcelain tile. The stain and finish used on the wood work was close match to the existing 35 year old finish found on the current trim. Four new doors were installed and finished to blend in well with current house trim. Two windows and sliding glass door were finished with same wood as the new cabinets which resulted in a high end custom look. The finish carpentry was done by RR Custom Exteriors and was done with precision joints and door alignment resulting in trim and doors having high quality look and function respectively. We selected a commercial grade laminate floor because of our pets and we wanted a soft floor surface.

We were satisfied with their work. We had excellent service. He finished our basement and made it handicap accessible. He had the sub contractors lined up one after the other to get the job done. He had all the sub contractors work checked and signed off by the inspector. He worked with our budget.
