They constantly tried to up sell additional services I neither wanted or needed they didn’t have ash bucket since their plastic one melted. I found this completely alarming what chimney service would ever put hot ashes in a plastic bucket? A brick in my insert fell out after they left and they claimed it was wear and tear and my fault refused to come put it back in then agreed to but never showed up then did not answer or return my calls. My son put brick back in there was nothing wrong other than carelessness by Murphy’s. I would never hire them for anything again and would recommend others looking to use them continue looking for a good and responsible contractor

They did fine, showed up when they're supposed to, and did what I asked them to do.

James Murphy did a complete knockdown of the broken column, haul-away, and an expert rebuild for us. The results are a perfect, professionally finished brick lamp column, better than the original, with proper foundation and interior reinforcement. He explained the steps beforehand and completed the work in a timely manner with expertise. We discussed possible future projects- -so yes, we would rehire. Thanks.

Murphy Masonry misrepresented its expertise. Murphy Masonry spent a deposit prior to work beginning rather than holding it in escrow. Workers were poorly or unsupervised and damaged other parts of the house after specific instruction to James Murphy intended to protect those areas. Murphy Masonry repeatedly demanded payment ahead of schedule to offset unsound business practice. Murphy Masonry damaged windows and failed to install them to manufacturer’s instructions, or recognized (American Architectural Manufacturer’s Association) best practices for the region. Murphy Masonry employed casual labor without training or experience in the tasks assigned. Work done by Murphy Masonry failed inspection and had to be torn out in entirety. James Murphy refused to continue work on the project when he was denied payment he was not entitled to ahead of schedule. This matter is pending litigation with the Columbia County (Oregon) court under 16CV12208 and has been investigated by the Oregon Construction Contractors Board #201459-101.
