House of Sewing Machines & Vacuums

This was a delightful experience with a well-informed and helpful business. I called for help with my machine which was having major problems handling a very heavy duty fabric. I was also in a hurry since the project was new patio cushion covers, and I wanted them ahead of company arriving. When I was initially told that it would be about 10 days because they were swamped with overhauling machines for high schools (just ahead of the start of school), I asked if there was any way to speed things along a bit. They said that if I was willing to pay for overtime by the technician, I could have the work done right away. This seemed reasonable to me, and I agreed. When I picked up the machine the next day, the technician was extremely helpful about what he had done and what the limitations of my machine were. He had done such a good job, however, that I was able to complete my work beyond what he had said the machine might be expected to do. He also explained in very understandable detail what he had done and why it was necessary. The bill was exactly as promised.

He said that he repaired it, charged me for a part, and it still does not work.

I brought a vintage White sewing machine in to be serviced after it had sat in an attic for years. I don't know how to sew, but am learning. Gary at HoSM was warm, professional, and competent. I felt like I received personalized service, and Gary even showed me how to thread the machine and make a few different stitches. I haven't yet used my machine since I brought it home, so I can't speak to that, but I feel like I received a fair price and personable service from experienced professionals.

The shop personnel were very professional and easy to work with. I called ahead of time to confirm they could work on the machine and then brought it in to be serviced. It took awhile for the work to be done due to the workload but that was ok given the excellent job they did. The machine works great!

My old girl, 1973 Singer portable, is a treasure to me. I took my maching to this shop, and found nice knowledgeable people. I brought them my old sweetie, after a few signs of age - they diagnosed, repaired and cleaning her up for me. (They even made her happy by putting two brand new, bright red, felt, circles for my spools to rest on top!) I love my old machine, and I am so glad I had someone I could trust. I will use them again - and refer them to all.

They were very helpful. They took time to look it over, inserted two new needles and didn't try to sell me on stuff I didn't need. The clerk/repair representative corrected the problem and had me walking out the door fifteen minutes later with no charges except for the two new needles. Another time, I also had difficulties with the same Serger. The cutting blade was not working correctly and I thought I might have to purchase a new one. A different repair man looked it over, did a quick adjustment and told me that it had just gotten out of adjustment. Again, there was no charge. I appreciated his honesty and professionalism. This shop is a small one and makes an effort for a personal touch. Many of their sales are return customers. I went there because I had used them last year for a vacuum repair and was very pleased. They ordered a new part, it arrived the next day, was repaired and I had it back within three days at the estimated price. That is what I call GOOD SERVICE.

I CALLED TO INFORM THEM OF THE PROBLEM, AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE MACHINE BACK IN, THEY'D TAKE A LOOK. I DROVE OVER THERE TWO DAYS LATER (A 35-MILE TRIP ONE-WAY), AND THE MANAGER/REPAIRMAN ACTED LIKE WE HAD NEVER SPOKEN ON THE PHONE. HE SEEMED COMPLETELY ANNOYED THAT I BROUGHT THE MACHINE BACK, AND WANTED ME TO LEAVE IT WITH HIM FOR ANOTHER TWO WEEKS FOR THE REPAIR. I ASKED IF HE COULD PLEASE TAKE 5 MINUTES TO LOOK AT IT. HE THEN PROCEEDED TO RUDELY DRILL ME ON THE TYPE OF FABRIC, AND THREAD I USE. THEN TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS USING SHODDY MATERIALS. HE THEN HAD THE NERVE TO TELL ME IT WAS SERGING JUST FINE, COULDN'T I LIVE WITH IT THAT WAY? I TOLD HIM I WAS GOING TO STAND THERE UNTIL HE FIXED IT. HE OPENED THE TENSION DIAL, MESSED WITH THE WHEELS INSIDE, AND IT HAS WORKED FINE SINCE. ALL THAT DRAMA ON HIS PART FOR A REPAIR THAT TOOK ALL OF 60 SECONDS. COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS.

I FELT THAT THE FILTERS WERE REPLACED, BUT THE HOSES DID NOT LOOK CLEANER. ALSO,THE OVERALL APPEARANCE OF MY VACUUM DID NOT SEEM CLEANER. I HAVE TAKEN THE VACUUM APART MYSELF IN THE MEANTIME AND KNOW I CAN DO A BETTER JOB! I STILL BUY MY VACUUM BAGS THERE, THOUGH.

I WAS PLEASED WITH THE WORK. ALTHOUGH IT TOOK A LITTLE LONGER THAN I WOULD LIKE. I WAS WITHOUT MY SEWING MACHINE FOR A WEEK, WHICH WAS HARD. BUT, THE FIX WORKED WELL AND I AM UP AND SEWING AGAIN!
