Appliance leaked on the floor, Gary came over to look at the situation, gave advice to shut off water....end of story.

Old top-loading washing machine that came with the house I bought back in 1998 required repair roughly 2 years after I moved in. I do not recall precisely the nature of the problem--whether the machine sprang a leak or stopped agitating, or what. Machine is rather old, and looks a little ratty. I remember complaining to Gary that the machine seemed like probably it wasn't even worth fixing--I should probably just buy a new one(?). Gary advised that the washing machine was actually a pretty good one (a good design: "has good agitation...") was generally, mechanically in pretty good shape, and should work pretty well if / once repaired. I decided to go ahead and repair the washer. I'm very glad I did: indeed, the rather homely old washing machine DOES do a great job, and has been a real workhorse. I keep expecting something else to give out, but it just keeps humming along. Even if it finally dies tomorrow, I'm glad I took Gary's advice not to give up on it way back a decade ago. And, obviously, Gary's repair proved to be extremely durable.
