For several years, I've subscribed to Scott's monthly update and clean up service.   He can also resolve some computer problems remotely.  I appreciate this type of service.  It gives me peace of mind with all the bad stuff that sneaks in from the internet.

I travel frequently on business and so wasn't available to retrieve my PC when he was finished with it. When I returned, I called and left a message. I didn't get a response. I called and left messages at least 3 more times letting him know that I was ready to pick up my PC (he originally promised to drop it off, but I offered to pick it up to make it more convenient for him). I never got a response and never got my PC back! This was very upsetting - not only had he in effect stolen my computer, I had family pictures on it that I will never get back.

He got out here and seemed to not know anything about what I was asking. I don't like him and I wouldn't have him again. he has a lot of old people that let him log in and do whatever. I don't think he knew much what he was doing. One of the reasons I had him come out was to look at the printer and he said, "I can't do anything with that." I don't think that he is really good at what he does. He is just didn't fix something and then when I complained he said, "what, do you want me to work for free?" I just didn't like the work that he did.  he says he gets his jobs by recommendation. One of the good things he does it teach computer classes and there's little old ladies in there. He came out to my house. The reason that he came is because I wanted him to look at my printer. I thought that he had mobile service. I don't know he has his own office. He didn't even give it a try. He did come out right a way. He was punctual. He is a friendly enough guy. He is good for those little old ladies.

Response from 4byte4 Computer Repair
"This person hired me over a year ago I drove out to here house and cleaned up an older desktop the issue she was having I told her might not be fixable with out a operating system XP reinstall. could not duplicate the issue. she asked me to look at her printer and there was nothing I could do it was also old I told her it would cost more to fix than it was worth. after I spent more than an hour there. she called and said it was having the problem again I told her it would cost extra to reinstall the XP she wanted me to fix with out additional charges. she also wrote a review and said she took it to another shop and had the work done so I am not sure why she is reopening this. warning she is abusing angies list"

He was responsive, prompt and willing to do everything I asked. I had to leave but left someone if there were questions. He made a few changes I didn't expect but nothing big. He rebooted the Wi-Fi so it worked great but didn't leave the password. I had asked him to install a program on my PC & sinc it up with the program already installed on my laptop, he installed the program but didn't sinc them up. Overall I believe he is knowledgeable and qualified and possibly because I had to leave the work didn't quite turn out as I had expected.

First they sent out the wrong technician. The next day the owner came and apologized profusely for the mistake. He didn't do much with the machine. Told me a couple of things to do/buy but didn't perform any in depth diagnostics. This, in my opinion, was a meet and greet opportunity for them and very little service for me.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. He was tremendous and I tried referring him on to a few other people. I have moved from Portland and now I'm in Santa Barbara. I would love it if I found someone like him in Santa Barbara. He's wonderful. I didn't spend more than what the Big Deal was for. I think he gave me more time than what I paid for. He's good and he has kind of a positive nonchatty get down to business work ethic and I appreciated that too. He did not try to implore you in any of the services that were not in the deal.

My sister called me because her computer quit working and she thought I might be able to help her out.  I looked up computer repair services in her area and found Scott.  She called Scott, left a message, and was pleased he returned her call in the same day.  In the meantime, she had bought a new computer and told Scott.  He told her he could save her money by fixing her old computer and saving her the grief of upgrading to Windows 8.  I told her to go with Scott's recommendation.
Scott showed up later the same day.  He told her he could rebuild/replace the necessary components of her PC tower (ie mother board), restore all the data and programs from her old hard drive to the new hard drive, and have her up and running by the end of the day.  This was important as the computer was used for the family business and had been out of commission for several days already.

I called The Computer Guy late in the day because the computer for my home based business had appeared to die. I had no image whatsoever on my monitor and without my computer, my business is "out of business"! Scott was very busy but considering the urgency of my situation agreed to make a service call after hours, at about 8:00 PM on a Friday night! Within about a half hour he had determined that it appeared to be not the computer, but a bad monitor. I didn't suspect this because the monitor was just over a year old. I had an old CRT monitor that we were able to hook up temporarily to verify that it was indeed the monitor that had failed. Then, instead of charging me an arm and a leg for a new monitor, Scott informed me that Costco had a great deal on a monitor and suggested I buy a new monitor from Costco. I did and the machine is still working well. The Computer Guy is honest, ethical, and did a great job for me. I would definitely use The Computer Guy again!

presentative of Computer Guy NW that I had worked with was no longer with him. We agreed on a price of $125 to repair the laptop and "clean it up". The work was done within a week and at the agreed upon price. I'm now satisfied and can give Computer Guy NW a positive review.

Scott promptly returned my call when I left him a message regarding the date I was available for his service call. I used a promotion on Angie's List for a discount. I have used Scott numerous times for different computers. He has also been able to solve any problems I was having. I would highly recommend him. He really knows his business.

Norton software and replacing it with I purchased the deal because our laptop was having a problem with the screen and was running slowly. If the screen was repositioned while working on the laptop it would go black or produce horizontal distortion making it unviewable. The many reviews for the company touted Scott's punctuality, knowledge and thoroughness. Unfortunately he did not show up at our house, Eric did. He was 12 minutes late for the appointment and made no mention of his tardiness when he arrived. I explained the problem and demonstrated it for him. He eventually admitted that he did not know how to fix it and spent the next 2 1/2 hours removing our Norton software and replacing it with Avira and installing a newer version of Firefox. Unfortunately, the Firefox did not work very well with Xfinity (Eric said that apparently they were not compatible although about 2 weeks later I was able to make them work together as they had before the update.).
When he left he told me that he would find out what work would be needed to fix the hardware problem when he got back to the shop and send me an email describing the process and probable cost. Since it has been almost 3 months and I have heard nothing, I assume he has never gotten back to the shop.
On the positive side, he did only charge me and additional $89 for the additional 1 1/2 hours that he was here doing whatever he was doing.
I have resisted writing this review, since I did not really want to blast a local small business, but since I have received 3 or 4 requests from Angie's List I am doing so.
I am rather disappointed in my experience with Computer Guy NW. Things might have been different if Scott had shown up.

My husbands business computer was locking up and unable to send email. Scott was very responsive and cleaned things up right away. He also cleaned up our kids computer so they could use it again. we have
since bought a rebuilt computer from him and it works like a champ. Great guy!

All went well, but there wasn't enough "affordable"   time for me to continue on as I would have wished, due to my living on a small pension.  He was VERY knowledgeable and professional, very patient, very kind, and very helpful in many ways.  I took notes as we worked together.  I am not able to afford to continue at this time with his hourly rate, but I would HIGHLY recommend him and his services and expertise to others.  A very nice man.
