Air Duct Cleaning
$2,200
I signed up for an Amazon.com local deal for air duct
cleaning service from Fresh Breeze Air Duct Cleaning.  The promise:
?One Complete HVAC Cleaning Including:  Cleaning of Unlimited Supply Vents, One Main Duct and One
Return Vent, Dryer Vent Cleaning and Furnace Inspection? for $69.  A real deal.
The service was not provided by Fresh Breeze Air Duct
Cleaning but by Summit Clean Air which I assume was a subcontractor but was not
known in advance of the workers arrival.
The work was scheduled for a Sunday and was performed by two soft spoken
English-as-a-second language guys.
I have no complaints about the quality of the work performed.
My complaint is the final cost.  We had no prior notice that the $69 for ?One Complete HVAC
Cleaning? service would cost over $2,000 when completed.  Granted the fine print did say
additional charges were possible for additional services but this was way
beyond our expectation.
We were not told in advance of the service appointment that the $69 only
covered the cost of the positive airflow (warm air) registers having a vacuum
applied and that it was not effective unless the whole system was clean when
they started.  Not having
understood that ?Complete? was only complete with the stipulation that the
whole HVAC needed to be cleaned.
In addition, the $69 level of service was only effective in cleaning the
HVAC when done on an annual basis after the complete cleaning.  They showed us pictures of the dirty
furnace and after having torn the house apart we opted for a complete cleaning
but we should have had this explained in advance of the service.
I attempted a discussion with the manager of Summit Clean Air but found him argumentative.
Amazon refunded my payment without questions.
