"Sorry about the price. But as we are doing upwards now of 40 roofs a month I don't sell on price we sell on quality and service. If you need us we respond. If you were looking for just cheap price than we aren't going down that path as history has shown the customer suffers and gets hurt. We were recently approved by Starbucks and now have done many many roofs. Can you buy coffee for less? Quality and service last longer. So again if anyone is only concerned about price than we may not be the right fit. A roof is supposed to last and we get so many calls weekly to fix jobs done by the cheap guys who are no longer in business. We are growing 25% a year and opening new offices."
Everyone was very friendly and quick to get things done until the paperwork was signed and it was too late to back out. That is when they stopped communicating with us. I found miscalculations in the paperwork, the timetable they gave us was extended without a call, the office staff became rude, and the installation date kept getting moved because there was only one installer. My husband took time off work to be there, but due to multiple rescheduling he wasn't able to be there when the work was actually done. When we finally got our window order, there were a few things wrong. One of the windows wasn't ordered correctly, another was dented, and the installer had know idea about the things the salesman told us would happen. To get those things fixed, it took another 6 weeks with the same "miscommunications" that we had the first time. We ordered our windows in December and did not get the project finished until March. That was with a lot of calls and emails to the office staff, the installer, and finally a manager. I give the installers credit since it was freezing and windy, but I'm disappointed with some of the windows. Overall it was stressful and frustrating and did not turn out like I had hoped.
"Please speak to your husband as we fully communicated with him all along. We have a lot of documentation relayed to that."
Details:
The driveway was clear, as requested, and a trailer that blocked the (double) driveway was dropped on 7/1, when the roofers were expected to arrive. Later I was advised by phone that the roofers would be delayed four hours because of the hot day, Saturday and Sunday. I had to make a call at 1:30 PM to find out that they would not be arriving that day, but would start at 8:00 AM 7/2.
On 7/2 they arrived at 10:00 AM and tore the roofing off, disposing of everything in the trailer. The foreman introduced himself before the crew arrived, and left, to return much later that day. The turbine vents that were removed had left two foot diameter holes in the sheeting, and I was concerned that they would shingle over them. No one in the crew spoke more than a few words of English, and to my horror the foreman was no better. The crew laid paper hastily, and it went over the two foot diameter holes. One of the crew actually stepped into one of the holes while laying paper, the next line up. I spoke with the foreman, and I don't know if either of us made our points clear.
On 7/3 the crew was due at 7:00 AM, but arrived at 8:30 AM. The roof extension crew arrived at 9:00 AM, and the boss there understood my concerns about the opennings in the sheeting. He made a call to the main office to straighten out any misunderstandings. In the meantime shingles are going onto the roof at a blistering pace. When the shingling was near the first of the opennings a section of the sheeting containing the hole was removed and replaced with a small patch sheet. The crew doing the roof extension removed the satellite dish. As they were leaving (roof extension completed) I asked about the reinstallation of the dish, and was told the roofing crew would do it, they had been given all of the information. The roofing crew finished laying shingles and were leaving, and asking me to sign off on the job, which I would not do because the peak still needed eight feet of finish work, and the dish was not reinstalled. The finisher arrived and finished the peak, and again asked me to sign off, and denied that he had any responsibility to reinstall the dish. I phoned the office and confirmed that they would hire the satellite company to reinstall the dish, and also confirmed that the gutter (subcontractor) would install the gutters ASAP. I received a call from the gutter company and was asked if Monday would be okay, and I asked if Friday, 7/5 was available, since I had to be home to supervise the dogs. Arrangements were made to hang gutters on 7/5, and the paperwork and final payment were provided to the finisher. The satellite company's installer came and reinstalled my dish satisfactorily. I have not been able to confirm that the roofer has paid the satellite bill, yet.
On 7/5 the gutter crew arrived when expected, and contrary to what I was told, they were a subcontractor, not direct employees of Tristate. They did a fine job planning and fabricating the gutters. The flaw is how they installed, there are missing screw in the hangers, and at least one screw caught the flashing causing a lift of the flashing under the roof, creating a depression that could have gathered water and caused a leak, if not corrected.
"Please visit our website at tristate.pro or email [email protected] so I can receive any feedback as I rarely visit this area to respond. I certainly appreciate the feedback on how we can improve as we are consistently Installing 30 plus jobs a month plus commercial and we get pretty busy at times. I am so used to getting only positive information from our customers which we have several binders filled up as we do so many roofs each month. I did notice a few things in the computer and notes with you regarding your job which I was curious on? 1. He paid us and signed the completion form saying that work was completed satisfactorily 2. He wanted and had mark go back out there to give him an estimate on getting some doors 3. Sam my production person stated "I was always so kind to him on the phone and he would call telling me he’s “my pain” and I would reassure him that he is not a pain and that it is my job to make sure he is taking care of 100% 4. We called and had his satellite dish company out there the same day and paid for it right then and there. I had told him on the phone that it was paid for or they wouldn't have come out in advance 5. He never expressed any problems to us besides the satellite dish which I took care of right away 6. We communicated with him as far as the job delay went because we were a day behind an he was well aware myself or Rafael the Superintendent would always call and make sure the homeowners know and ok if we are running a day behind. 7. All the Roofers, Window Installers and Siders are company installers. We make sure they get advanced manufacture training. Just as a note, we are also in the top 3% of every roofing company in America being elite GAF master certified installers. We have also sent our window and siding installers to classes and strive for education. We also hold daily meetings with the salespeople who are estimating 150-200 roofs a month. 8. We have a recycle center located at 1901 Center Street in Tacoma and I would invite you to come down and visit, we have bales of plastic compacted and cardboard located there for review. Last year we were rebated by GAF and recognized with a press release for our recycling of most of the products. Certain products because of contaminants and location of facilities we cannot recycle. Please call me if you ever need anything else. We would give you a great price on those doors you requested from us. Thank you, John Holum - President"
"Thank you for the positive review. We appreciate that and I certainly will give our team a high five...... John Holum - President"
The 1st day they were gone by the time I got home, but they were able to tear off the old roof, replace any boards, and start the pre-shingles steps and cleaned up. The 2nd day, they arrived around 8 and worked until about 6pm to finish. The roof looks great and so does the yard. Doesn't even look like anybody was there. (ie...they cleaned up everything) They will have to come back to finish up some stuff around the fireplace....they were not sent enough materials, but the crew of 4 did an excellent job...and in only 2 days!
All in all, the miscommunication was a little disconcerning, but it was ok and once they started the work they were not only professional and hard-working but very timely and considerate of the yard/surroundings.
