This company has been to court multiple times for not finishing the job and stealing people's money. If they do the job they do a poor job and usually you have to hire somebody else to finish or take down what was done. The better Business bureau no longer recognizes this business because of its bad Business practicing. Just this year alone he's got multiple subpoenas against him because of his business practices. He has lived in multiple States and he has had problems with the law in multiple States. The positive reviews on his website are mainly from friends and family. This guy has stolen well over $100,000 from people in the last couple of years. There is post all over the internet that tells how corrupt this business is. I have even talked to a handful of people that didn't post reviews and has told me that they have been ripped off by him. I have talked to local contractors that are upset with this company because they have to go and fix what he has done. He claims he's fully insured and that's only partially true. He has insurance for him and the workers but he does not have liability insurance. so any damage that he does to your house like he did mine falls on you. He will refuse to fix anything that he's done. He hides his assets under his wife's name who happens to be the owner of Brooks General Contracting her name is Tosha Brooks. The local courts here where I live are very familiar with him. I found out that just this year alone he has had multiple subpoenas brought up against him. He is a shady contractor and I highly recommend staying as far as away from this company as possible

I initially had high hopes of writing a stellar review, however, the repercussions of hiring Paul are still impacting us negatively even a year later. Paul was both kind and professional in our first interactions with him, however, that declined quickly throughout our project. We had an extensive remodel (gutting home down to the studs) and were looking for framers to help us as we were acting as the GC. My husband is in construction, so we were looking into a few options and Paul from BGC reached out along with a few others. From day 1 he was excited and interested in our project and we liked him. Very personable. Our concern with choosing Paul was that we thought the project was a bit “over his head” in terms of capacity/experience. I had read reviews and felt confident he would do a great job – huge mistake. Initially we had hired someone else for the job due to timing (we needed to move quickly and I stressed this upfront) and were scheduled to start when that person was a no show and I reached out to Paul. He was ready and willing to help us next day. We were ecstatic and extremely appreciative. Paul showed up next day at 7:30am to go over the project, he said, “you will have a new stairwell by Thursday!” and that he had a few other jobs “in the works”. We were happy things were moving forward with our remodel and again, we had liked Paul and his energy from the beginning. Paul began working on our project and even said that he would credit us for my father-in-law and husband acting as “assistants” to help everything go more quickly. Paul set deadlines and consistently blew past them week after week which caused increasing frustration since this pushed out other contractors (electrocution/HVAC/etc.) After a few weeks into our project Paul told my husband that he would be gone for two weeks and that he had a conversation with me about it. This conversation never happened – I never asked the detail of Paul’s “other projects” because it was not my business and I assumed he was professional and could manage his time accordingly. When I expressed our frustration and lack of communication his response was that he “told me he had other projects in the works” but he neglected to tell us our project would be put on hold for weeks at a time. We were on a deadline, managing other contractors and this had a huge negative impact to our project. Paul neglected to use the proper material for our basement (pressure treated wood against concrete) which caused failed inspections in addition to misinterpreting the calculations for stair rise/run code. He built the stairs incorrectly the first time and when he needed fix it, he billed us at an hourly rate when we had agreed on a per-project price which ultimately costed us an additional $2,300. This was dirty business - he had a responsibility to do the right thing and complete the job without collecting additional funds however Paul silently threatened us by placing a lien on our home when he knew we were unhappy with the work. He “washed is hands” of our project and took off. We were out over $11,000, the project was left incomplete and we were not credited for the many hours my husband and father-in-law put in as was agreed upon. We were left in a lurch and on our own had to rebuild the stairwell, waterproof the incorrect framing in the basement to pass inspection, install doors/windows/trim etc. all which Paul was paid for and did not complete. I have been so furious this past year about this interaction and particularly that strong-armed us into paying by filing a lien against our home. In addition to the issues above, Paul’s framing was inconsistent – we asked for “standard door height” framing which is 82” for rough-in and each of the door frames Paul completed were between 80” and 81”. This error made us unable to purchase standard pre-hung doors and forced us to purchase custom doors at double the cost. Paul may be a good handyman for small jobs, but he is unorganized, has a problem with time management and does not stick to his initial bid price which I found unethical. If you have a large job or a deadline to meet, look elsewhere.

We have hired Paul 3 or 4 times on small fixes (exhaust fan) and improvements (deck sealants, floor transitions, window treatments) at various rental properties. He is communicative, kind, prompt and his work is very good. He is responsible. I look forward to continuing to work with him on new projects as they arise.

Perfection! Paul and Jason came out exactly on time and after confirming with a call. They did everything exactly as I needed. Minimal disruption, cleaned up afterwards. I am handicapped, they showed every consideration.
