"Thank you [Member Name Removed]. Please let us know if you need anything."
They were good. I know people who have recommended them. They were responsive, professional and did not leave things a mess. They did the work in a timely manner. My husband did a lot of research on price and he would not have hired anyone who was out there pricewise.
I had spent 3 frustrating weeks chasing 2 other companies for simple estimates and begging for return calls. Both provided unreasonable and incomplete estimates (from $2100 to $2800 for a simple water heater) and both included items that I was told by both companies I did not need. One company told me I had to go to City Hall and find out for him what the code required. Ridiculous.
Kudos to Mike K. of D**** who came out for the initial call and worked with me to give me a complete estimate on the spot for both a new furnace and water heater for a very good price. Installers Sam and Andy were so nice and professional. They worked tirelessly all day to pull out the old units and install and test everything to perfection. With surgical precision they custom fit the new furnace to my small space and ensured everything was sealed, tested and working well. The furnace is many times quieter than the old one, which sounded like a plane taking off in my living room where the units are located in a small closet.
Guys, you are absolutely the best! The stellar customer service and price I received from D**** far outpaced their competitors. I will absolutely use D**** for all my heating/water heater needs in the future. Thank you D****!
Honoring the lifetime service was not going to happen. First, the tech told me I had to call them out every year (which I didn't) and that was specified on my contract or it was void. I pulled the contract and showed the tech, he commented that this was ancient and they don't do it like that anymore. All the contract said was that I had to operate the furnace according to manufacturer's instructions, absolutely nothing about calling them every year.
Meantime, the tech explained that I have tiny cracks in the exhaust inducer motor housing that could result in carbon monoxide leaks into the (unheated and detached) garage. Replacement (he showed me his book) would be $800 unless I decided to do it right now, and then he could do it for $700... this smells like "you won't be able to use your 3 day legal right to change your mind". So I said OK, but we have to resolve the $90 charge for the annual service and my lifetime service plan... FWIW, a replacement motor with housing is under $265 online.
A call to the office and I was told (in a rather rude and uncaring no-nonsense tone) that since I didn't have them out every year, I didn't pay for the lifetime agreement and thus they weren't going to honor it.
Figures. Cancelled the replacement and sent him on his way. He took pictures of my contract and promised to take it up with the owner in the AM and he'd call me. Perhaps they'd waive the $90 if the motor was replaced... never heard a peep.
I'll NEVER, EVER use these guys again. I'm guessing the "lifetime service" is really a way to ensure that D****, and only D**** sees your furnace every year so that D**** can do all of the "repairs". With a "deal" if you give up your right to price shop or change your mind.
Providers tech #1 completed his HVAC service and he had bad news for mom. He told her there were 5 separate raw gas leaks at the valve, the control board had several burnt spots from overheating, and the supply motor was failing.
He told mom that the home was is possible danger of blowing up and his suggestion offered was to shut it down completely and budget for a new furnace immediately.
Mom called me right away to put the tech on the phone and he told me the same dire facts and predictions with me as he has shared with her along with sharing a scary story or two about recent gas explosions. So the furnace was shut down, leaving mom in the chilly house for the night with no heat.
Mom had told tech #1 we were going to selling the home and he told mom she should budget for a "high efficiency furnace option" because in about 6 months this would be "by law" a mandatory item required on all furnaces. If we didn't get it now and then sold the home later we would be spending a whole lot more money at that time. He submitted a bid to us for furnace replacement plus the additional high efficiency option for $4426.
With just a little research I found that this "new law" is NOT a new law and had been rejected early last year. It is not going into effect and would have been an unnecessary cost.
I have a home warranty plan and this provider is not a company that works for them. I called the warranty company and heating company tech #2 came out to evaluate the issue.
Tech #2 failed to find ANY gas leak and said the furnace was fine with no burnt control board and although quite old, we were in no danger at all nor did we need a new furnace. To confirm this tech #2 suggested I call out Puget Sound Energy for a free gas leak test which I did the next day.
PSE checked for leaks and was never able to find even one leak let alone 5 separate raw gas leaks. He said that the furnace was old but perfectly fine to operate and needed NO corrective action.
Did Tech #1 try to take advantage of us when he saw an old woman that could be deceived?
The Provider insisted that that tech #1 be allowed to come back out to the property to defend himself. During that visit he pulled out two meters to show me the gas leaks as the machine went beep beep beep. When i asked him to explain how there could be gas leak readings on his machines when no one else could find a serious leak he began to turn red in the face and became defensive. He saw a sticker on the furnace of tech #2 and began berating them by telling me he had never even heard of them, told me that the Puget Sound Energy tech was likely a novice and not as knowledgeable as he is because he has been a tech for X number of years is certified and didn't appreciate me calling him a liar. He was not ever called a liar but his service performance was called into question. Then he got mean and he told me that this provider would NEVER EVER ever work with me again. They would NEVER consider my business in the future! At this point I said he was to defensive and asked him to leave. My renter stood there watching all this and told me later he thought he was going to have to physically escort this guy out.
As the tech #1 left he jammed my furnace cover in so badly that when the PSE tech came out AGAIN to check for those "leaks" it had to be pried open. PSE again found NO gas leak issues with my furnace and shared info that all gas connections have some very small leakage which was likely what was being registered by the tech.
I am REALLY disappointed in the service and lack of professionalism. That is a shame because I have had a good working relationship in the past with this provider.
He showed me some dark spots inside the furnace withi his camera ( I don't know if they were holes or not),
he then got his carbon monoxide tester to work, and it indicated there was no carbon monoxide present.
he said maybe the furnace was double or triple walled and he would service it and I didn't need a new one after all.
I felt as those I was being scammed, although recently I told this story to a friend in the business who informed me that he would recommend any furnace 20 years or older be replaced. So, next time I'll have another company service this furnace and see what their advice is.
Either way, first I was told I needed a new furnace, then I was told I didn't. I'm not comfortable with that information.........
