My roof top deck was a problem because water would accumulate on the floor of the deck and not drain well. In the winter with the heavy rains it was a real problem. I told a friend at work about it and she told me about a carpenter who had enclosed a solarium for her Mom and the he had done a really good job. She put us in contact. It was mid December. Jim came over, took some photos and looked around. Then he came up with a plan to put a room on with posts and beams and a finished ceiling with lighting. He dealt with a chimney by wrapping his structure around it. He gave me a bid for around $7K that included materials. I saved a little by staining the boards for the roof myself. I had had others come out to look at this problem and I never really liked their solutions which were more on the order of a leanto and the price was about the same. Jim did all the carpentry and the roof. Many of the other bidders would have left me to find a roofer. Not only did he complete all this work during one of the worst storm periods in Seattle history, but he had to work on top of a very high roof. The fact that he was coming from Stanwood didn't seem to effect his ability to get here and get the job done.
