They started with the front pine tree (located about 8 feet from our house) after they first they put 4' x 8' sheets of plywood against the front of the house to prevent damage. One person went up in a truck lift and starting from the bottom, started cutting branches. The two others in the team fed the branches into their mulcher as they were dropped. The cutting person was really good at directing where the branches were dropped. After he went as high as he could with the truck lift, he got on his climbing spurs and continued up without the lift. Once close to the top, he dropped the top, and then dropped 2-4 foot sections of the tree trunk, working his way down, again very skilled at dropping them where he wanted them to go. At about 12 feet, he came down and dropped the remain trunk. They were continually cleaning up, keeping the working area clear. For the spruce (located about 2 feet from our house), one person climbed the tree and connected a rope about 2/3 the way up, which was then connected to their truck. With continued pressure on the rope, they felled the whole tree, again, right where they planned it. Cleanup on the front continued the rest of the day, moving stumps into groupings, and finally multiple passes with leaf rakes, plastic trash cans, brooms, and a leaf blower to get things cleaned up. With the cleanup ongoing, they brought the grinder to bear on both of the front stumps. The work they did grinding the stumps was also really well done, including running out some of the spruce roots out into the yard.. At the end of the day, all that was left was the tree trunk sections.
The next morning, another two man crew brought a trailer and they loaded up all of the trunk sections. Also, the cutting crew was back to work the back yard. Here there was no access for the truck lift, so it was climbing spurs from the start. These were two pines about 4 feet apart, with a 10 foot Dogwood tree and fence about 10 feet away. The same process here, with the same expert control of dropped branches. The Dogwood tree and fence were untouched. All of the tree debris had to be dragged to the front, and they also placed their plywood along the fence and the house to prevent damage as they moved all of the branches to the front. The same stump grinding, as well as cleanup followed, with trunk crew the next day. The last day they came back and did a final pass at cleanup to get any debris from the trunk pickup, as well as the last little bits. They didn't ask for payment until all was done and I was satisfied.
We were trying to get it done in late January or early February, but the weather didn't cooperate, so had to wait until March. While waiting for favorable weather, he called us a couple of times to update us on when he would be able to do the job. He even stopped by in late February to check the condition of our property. He wanted to make sure that he could get his equipment on to our property without damaging the lawn.
His price was way better than anybody else. The next bid was $2250 and the third bid was $3000, so there was no comparison.
He called us in early March to tell us that he was coming out to do the work on March 13th between 8:30 and 9:00 AM. He arrived at 9:00 AM on the 13th with with 3 guys and the yard was cleaned of everything by the time they left around 5:00 PM. They ran all the branches through a chipper and hauled those away as well as the larger pieces from the tree trunks. You couldn't tell that they had been here. They put ply wood down to get the trucks in the lawn to make sure that they didn't damage it or the sprinkler system. He and his crew were right on time, and they didn't take much of a break during the day either.
They did an outstanding job for me. I was impressed with their efficiency and professionalism. I highly recommend Tall Tree Service for pruning and tree removal.
