Riverside Painting

. The contractor contracted the manlift and showed up on time to start the job, but did not have some of the necessary buckets to use with his sprayer or fuel for his electrical generator (to be used in the manlift to power the sprayer). The contractor jerry rigged a spray bucket to work and I provided fuel for his generator (twice in two days - 2 gallons approximately-no big deal but showed lack of preparedness and professionalism).
The contractor double painted all upper portions and skim coated half the prior painted side portions (only half of the west side as the manlift could not reach all of that side).  Around 3 pm of the second day, he could see that he was not going to finish the part requiring the use of a ladder, at that point he requested another days pay, $500. and I refused saying we had a contract.  The contractor said he had not contracted to skim paint what I had already painted and was not part of what he agreed to.  At this point we had a discussion on what we each thought we agreed to and finally the contractor wanted his money so that he could leave with the job not completed.  I offered $250 more if he would include the copula, not previously include in the work.  This would have required  a half day to complete both the remaining barn wall and the copula to be painted.  The contractor refused and wanted either $500 or payment to leave the job undone.  I refused the extra $500 payment.
As he was going to leave the job unfinished, I did not feel as he deserved full payment, I docked him two hours pay and sent him on his way. 
I have now contracted another painter, who seems much more professional, with a signed agreement.
