When I called and scheduled an estimate, if I remember they were able to come out the next day. I believe it was Gene / Eugene who came out and he was very friendly. He took measurements, made a sketch, gave me a pamphlet for sink options, and said he would call within a couple days with a quote.
He called a couple days later and gave us a quote of a little over $1,700, which was based on a mid-range granite product meaning that depending on what we picked, that number could increase or decrease; we have about 31 square feet of countertop. This price included an undermount 16-ga. stainless steel two-basin sink, a polished edge in the granite around the sink, all fabrication and installation labor, a special curve (about 9" radius) on one corner to match our cabinetry, and tax - totally out-the-door price. (It did not include demolition and removal because I did that part myself.) I was floored by how reasonable the price was, considering we had received a quote from a different company for a laminate product without a sink for nearly $1,300 and a quartz countertop from yet another company for nearly five grand (see my review of FloForm...)!
We ended up selecting an even cheaper product so our total was a little over $1,500! They were able to schedule the template appointment for the very next day and as it turned out, they actually called a little later and asked if they could do it that same day, which I was happy to accommodate! They were also able to schedule the installation for only one week later, so we were absolutely thrilled!
When the installers arrived, they were absolutely professional and experienced in their craft. It took something near a full day to complete, but the finished product was just stunning. The seam is virtually invisible thanks to their color-matched epoxy system and vacuum machine they use for bonding the two together. We could not be happier with the product we got, especially for the price!
I feel like I am forgetting things I wanted to say about this company because the experience was just so great. On the other hand, it was so easy and painless there isn't much that needs to be said. Their product and service were perfect, and I felt the price was unbeatable. I absolutely recommend this company for granite countertops (they also offer quartz and other products) and will definitely be getting in touch with them when we go to remodel our bathroom!
I did a complete kitchen remodel and was planning to do laminate counter tops. With a good 25 linear feet of counters, including a six-foot peninsula with seating, my kitchen is pretty big. I stopped by NW Granite and More thinking to get a granite remnant for one section to use for baking prep. The guy manning the store convinced me to let him quote the entire kitchen.
The quote was only about twice what I expected to pay for laminate - a great deal - and included installation. I placed the order a few days later and they ordered the granite based on the designs I gave them. They charged me half the cost up front with the balance due after installation.
Once the granite was in, they sent a very knowledgeable guy out to create the template they needed to cut the granite to fit my kitchen. He really knew what he was doing and explained to use what to expect with the finished product - like how many seams they'd have to do and where they would be.
Once the template was made, installation was scheduled for just a week later. Two guys came out and carried the granite pieces in and got to work. They installed the plywood base for the granite on my cabinets, then started to lay out the granite. My cabinets were installed by professionals, but my house is over 100 years old and the kitchen floor wasn't exactly level. Much was done to make sure the cabinets were level and at the same height, but there was a slight variance between cabinets in the space for the dishwasher. The problem was further compounded given the length of the counter top run - because it was longer than the standard sheet of granite, they had to include a short section that had to be seemed up on two sides. One side was a long run of counter and the other was the peninsula.
The installers did as much work as they could while I brought my contractors in to work on the cabinets in these sections. Still, it took quite a while to get the cabinets all on the same level and even then, small variations meant that more more was require to get the granite pieces to line up. The granite installers were patient and helpful while we worked to get the cabinets in line.
The two installers spent about 10 hours on my job. They were helpful, proactive, and patient. The resulting installation is beautiful and just about perfect. When I paid the balance to the company, I had them add an extra $100 to the total for the installers and their extra time.
Do NOT fall for their outside readerboard which says "Granite from $20 a sq. ft. installed". That is COMPLETELY FALSE advertising; what they mean is "from $20 a sq. ft. PLUS installation". Their prices are a little cheaper, but there is a reason. Their sales and installation service is pathetic and we paid dearly with a NIGHTMARE experience.
How this company differs from most is that you CANNOT pick your slab, because they have a "special" supplier in Seattle or somewhere. You can see the slab after you have purchased it, but it is in their (intentionally?) very dark showroom. ( If the showroom had more light, maybe we would have seen before installation that one of the slabs did not match the others. ) They also cut the granite on sight, which will increase the time your kitchen is out of service. Count on having a lot of problems with communication, installation, and a longer time that your kitchen will be out of service than they tell you, because of the amatuer nature of this business.
Problem 1: We made special arrangements to have a weekend free for this installation; my husband came from working out of town. We were all ready, and they called Friday and said an "installer called in sick". We will give you $100 off your bill, which they conveniently "forgot" to take off the bill. They tell you their installers will work seven days a week, but they don't tell you that the installers probably don't want to. Installers are sub-contractors. We had to make special arrangements for a second weekend, at great inconvenience. Then, on the second scheduled weekend, Peter said they would arrive between nine and eleven on Saturday; at 11:45 we called and were told "Yes they should be there, but I don't know where they are. I'll call you back." The installers finally arrived at 1:30. We had been promised that installation would take at most a day and a half. They were behind before they started.
Problem 2: Peter said the granite would come sealed, and we would need to seal it after one year, and then again yearly. That was fine, but the GRANITE WAS NOT SEALED! Within the first few days, I had stained it in several places because I did not know that it was not sealed. We sealed it ourselves and that took care of the problem, but I wish they hadn't lied. Maybe because the installers left the slabs uncovered in the rain out in our driveway for a day or two, it washed the sealer off. Granite webcare sights do tell you to wipe water off granite as soon as you spill it, but I guess the installers just didn't care that they left it in the rain....(and at that time I didn't know).
Problem3: Peter did not know or make a note of which sink we wanted, so he sent out a sink with a reversed design. He did make a special trip out to deliver what we thought was the correct design, but after looking at it for some time, we realized it was STILL not the right sink. So, we spent about four hours on Sunday (the day they were supposed to have finished installation) looking at sinks in Home Depot and Lowe's thinking we need to get this right. They did not have the sink we wanted, so we ended up settling for one from NW Granite that we did not want, because they were out of the one we wanted. Wish they had told us that from the beginning of the installation, it would have saved us a lot of trouble. We still don't have the sink we want, but we had to finish the installation, so we put in the sink we didn't really want. Peter will tell you lots of things that end up not being true. There is very poor follow-through between sales and installation.
Problem 4: The correct size of slab for the peninsula was ordered, but the peninsula that was delivered was TEN INCHES wider. "Sales staff" (Peter and others) failed to check the delivery for accuracy. This problem caused a two day delay in installation because the installer then had to cut the peninsula and fabricate a bull nose edge for the correct size. The installer did not have the correct glue to do this on Sunday, had to wait until Monday to get it (or so the installer said, but then it was apparent he and his co-installer were not keen on working Sunday, anyway). So, though I thought I would not have use of my kitchen for a day or a day and a half (which is what Peter said), it ended up taking FOUR days, plus delayed my husbands departure for his out of town job by one day, since he had to do the plumbing. Lots of eating out. Sales staff is good at selling; poor at follow-through.
Problem 5: Peter said the installers would be able to put the new granite over the old laminate if the old laminate was in "good shape", we did not have to do anything. We told him it had a bullnose and backsplash, like most laminate. We were told that REPEATEDLY. The laminate was in good shape, so we cleared the countertop and waited for the installers to show up on Saturday. When they did they looked shocked that the laminate had not been prepped, as in the bullnose and backsplash cut off. They had to call Peter and get his approval. I asked the installers, will your cutting make much mess, much dust, I have a dust allergy? They said "well, a little". I covered a few things, and left the area. After a few minutes I realized I should have sealed the entire house off from the kitchen dust. It took me probably 12 hours to finish cleaning up the "little" mess they made, it got all over food and dishes and containers and bowls in the cabinets underneath. There was sawdust in the saltines, sawdust in the popcorn maker, sawdust everywhere. A LITTLE COMMUNICATION COULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS> IF Peter had communicated properly, we would have prepped the countertop ourselves, with much less total mess. Poor follow through with installers, poor communication on the part of store staff.
Problem 6: When we inspected the slabs in their too-dark backroom, we noted a major flaw on the very expensive peninsula piece. Peter said he would MARK the slab, so the installers would know which part to cut. He never did, but we took him at his work, and before we knew it, the installers had cut the wrong end. Now we have to live with it. There is poor follow through on the part of sales/management staff.
Problem 7: Installers did not come with the proper bars to support the peninsula, as we had discussed that we did not want standard corpals. The main installer tried to get us to go to Big R and buy them ourselves (which probably would have been cheaper); he said he had forgotten his wallet (even though he drove to our house). Ultimately, it didn't matter as the installation was delayed anyway. Poor communication between sales staff and installers.
Problem 8: One of the slabs appears to be markedly different from the others and it is between two other slabs, right in the middle of the counter. What can we do about that? Replace it all?
Problem 9: The countertop where the installers had to recreate the bull nose is shorter by about one inch than it should be, and is also covered with sticky stuff underneath the bullnose. The installers are not exactly careful.
Problem 10: Whatever glue they used to seal the bottom of the backsplash is not transparent. We will need to work to get that off. That's a small problem, but indicative of the lack of professionalism in this place.
Problem 11: The installers had trouble figuring out how to level the peninsula; my husband had to
