LET THIS REVIEW REMIND YOU OF THE IMPORTANCE OF DOING YOUR HOMEWORK BEFORE HIRING SOMEONE TO WORK ON YOUR HOME. THIS REVIEW IS SUPPORTED ENTIRELY ON FACTUAL MATERIAL, WHICH IS A MATTER OF PUBLIC RECORD. JUDGE FOR YOURSELF -WE ARE JUST REVEALING WHAT WE FOUND AFTER OUR EXPERIENCE. My wife and I were looking to have some exterior refurbishing work done on our house. We called Greater Spokane Construction to give us a bid. Mark Andrews -the owner, came out and met with us and we went over the scope of work with him. His bid and work proposal raised red flags with us right away. Being in real estate, and having worked in construction for several years prior, it was easy for me to become alarmed by his proposal -with questionable building techniques -some of which sounded like they might have posed undue safety risks for his crew, in addition to us. My wife and I asked Mark to go more into detail with his plans for the work along with justifying them, in addition to his price (which in this case seemed unusually low, and accompanied with clauses for charging extra over an unusually large list of contingencies). Mark immediately became confrontational, almost to the point of threatening -apparently offended that we were questioning him about his competency. He emphasized that his father was a lawyer, that their proposal was superior to other contractors -and that it served to favor both the contractor and customer (which seemed quite contrary for the latter), and that we had no business inquiring about his work procedures for this project. We thanked Mark for coming out for the bid, told him we'd call him back, and then proceeded to do some research: We discovered that Mark has had 5 lawsuits filed against him over the course of the last two and a half years -4 of which were with his formal company (Andrews Maintenance and Restoration), -which currently has its license suspended. From what appears chronologically, he applied for the Greater Spokane Construction license in order to remain in business before the lawsuits progressed, or having his license suspended. -As we're not allowed to provide links, proceed to the Washington Labor and Industries website; then go under the Trades and Licensing Tab; select Hiring a Contractor; then via the Hiring a Contractor Tradesperson or Business Tool, -Enter (via business name): Andrews Maintenance and Restoration and/or Greater Spokane Construction to see the results. It appears Mark had a recent lawsuit filed against him under Greater Spokane Construction although it was dismissed. To obtain further background, we did a Google search for Andrews Maintenance and Restoration to find two of the three reviews revealing anecdotes describing experiences interestingly similar to that of what my wife and I experienced with Mark. In summary, for any small business who has had lawsuits filed against them by five different parties in a period of two and a half years would compel me to never allow the outfit back on our properties, nor would I recommend them to anyone else. Greater Spokane Construction shows a pattern of underbidding a project, performing sub-par work, and then overcharging for it afterward backed by legal threats if the customer challenges them. In our opinion, this a classic example of bullying, and to some degree extortion, which should never be tolerated. We've informed some other agencies about our findings with Greater Spokane Construction, as we feel compelled to protect both our vendors (as we believe most are honest, competent, quality-driven professionals) and the consumers in our community.
