What we didn’t understand how you had to do an extra flip of the switch rather than one switch. So for that it was $200. The work was fine, it was the amount that they charge and they took about 2 minutes. It was $200 because they had to come or less than 5 minutes.

GREAT. Came out the day after I called and quoted me a moderate price to complete the work but had to pull a permit first so scheduled the work a few days later. Michael and Keith were both professional and competent . I was somewhat skeptical of the price but with a 35 year old home, I'm comforted knowing it was done correctly.

Mike came out the same day to give me a free estimate on replacement of the panel.  The estimate was reasonable so I hired him on the spot.  His crew showed up first thing the following business day and had the main the panel replaced and the mast repaired in six hours.  Good communication, reasonable pricing, and punctual; he's a straight shooter and I'll be hiring him again.

My wife and I are absentee landlords of some rental property
in the Spokane Valley.  On Saturday
November 22, our tenant texted us that they had lost heat in a room, and that
several outlets were not working.
Spokane was cold, and because it was a Saturday (November 22), I sought
out someone that was available 7 days a week and could possibly resolve the
problem in short order.  Mr. McConnell,
the owner of Easy Electric LLC, a local business, said he would contact the
tenant that day and look into the problem.  He did not provide any details about his
charges for any possible work at the time.
When I checked with the tenants later that day, I learned that Mr.
McConnell did in fact contact them and decided that the situation was not in
need of immediate attention and set up an appointment for the following Monday.

Upon finding that the situation was not an emergency, my
wife and I discussed not using McConnell and contacting a workman that we had
used in the past and who had some familiarity with the property. We decided
since we had made a commitment to Mr. McConnell for the job, we elected to keep
that commitment and to allow him to do the work.

On Monday afternoon Mr. McConnell contacted me and stated
that he had gone to the property and repaired the problem,  he requested immediate payment for
$222.84.  Since I was involved in another
activity, and had seen that his business had good reviews on Angie's List, at
his insistence, before I could fact find, I paid him with a credit card over the
phone.

When I was finally able to contact the tenant I discovered
that Mr. McConnell had spent approximately 20 minutes on site.  After visiting with the tenant upstairs, he
removed the cover from the Cadet heater to inspect it, while his apprentice went
down to the basement to inspect the circuit breakers, and was able to restore
the power to the inoperable appliance by tightening the screws on a loose
connection.  I contacted Mr. McConnell
and asked about what seemed to be a particularly inordinate charge for a
minimal job.  He stated that he charges
$205.00 plus tax for a "find and repair" job, regardless of the time
involved.  Having looked at his WEB page,
where it specifically states that all costs will be stated prior to any work
being done, I asked him about this policy, and he stated that requesting him to
look into the problem authorized to do the work and absolved him of any
requirement to provide costs prior to doing the job.

After my wife learned of Mr. McConnell's explanation for his
charges, she notified him of her thoughts on the matter and her intent to alert
the Better Business Bureau, Angie's List, the States Attorney General as well
as our personal attorney.  He responded
to her email requesting a more reasonable fee for the service as follows:
  "I am
having difficulty believing that your husband did not know my troubleshooting
service for a couple of reasons. First, I tell EVERY SINGLE potential customer
my costs up front on the first phone call. I NEVER fail to do so. Secondly, I
have found, in my eight years in business, that the most effective way to
charge for troubleshooting is a flat fee, and I always disclose that fee up
front on the first call."
While I am sure Mr. McConnell believes he does tell potential
customers his pricing, I can assure you that he did not mention any cost
estimates to me, and if he had told me that a flat fee of $205.00 was what it
would cost, I would have used a known source.
Mr. McConnell went on to say:
"I apologize for this misunderstanding. I can see
how you feel you were misled, yet I am at a loss for a solution to this
problem. I, too, do not read minds. It seems to me that your tenant would have
communicated to you that the problem was not urgent, and you could have had the
opportunity to research other electrical technicians (who, by the way, would
have charged a similar fee). It does appear, though, that you did indeed do
some research before calling me. I do not imagine that my competitors were
eager to pick up their phones on Thanksgiving weekend. I have excellent reviews
because I operate an excellent business.
I would like to make
this situation right and fair. Will you please write me back and tell me what
your expectation was regarding my charge, and what you feel is fair to remedy
the issue?"

A little research shows
that Mr. McConnell's claim that others would have charged the same amount is
not factual.

Our tenants are not
electricians and are not in the position, nor do they have the experience to
accurately evaluate the situation or the cause.
It was also not Thanksgiving weekend.  It was the weekend before.
Mr. McConnell intentionally took advantage of
the situation knowing that we live out of town.
He engaged in deceptive business practices by failing to inform us of
his rates and insisting that we pay him immediately after doing the work before
we had the opportunity to talk to our renters.
It is our position that
he didn't want us to know he had only been there for 20 minutes and willfully
gouged us.  He took it upon himself to
make decisions without authorization, then insisted he had the authority to do
work without ever providing cost estimates or fees.

Mr. McConnell stated a
willingness " to make this situation right and fair" but despite his
comments, is now unwilling to address the issue, or even communicate.
As to his remark about
having excellent business reviews, that is only true under his present business
name, he has previously been fined for issues under a previous business name.
My wife and I feel that
in light of the time involved and the minimal work required, it would have been
reasonable for Mr. McConnell to charge a service call in the neighborhood of
$80.00, plus any parts or labor on top of that upon finding the problem.  We certainly would have expected a prior
notice of cost and feel under the circumstance that a total bill of $100.00
would be reasonable.  We have made this
suggestion to Mr. McConnell, but he has failed to respond, hence we are filing
this complaint in an effort to alert other trusting unsuspecting customers of
his business practices which demonstrate a willful intent to mislead and
defraud.
Response from Easy Electric
"We are a reputable company. We do our best to satisfy each customer. We handled everything from taking the call on thanksgiving weekend to working with the tenant to arrange the visit. We did exactly what we said we would do for exactly the price we said we would do it for."

I have to admit that I was a little apprehensive about cost because I know that electricians are expensive. But they do go through extensive trainingHe arrived on time and was very professional. He got right to work and into the problem. He went straight to the panel and immediately could see how all the lights were configured. He then followed through and tested until he found the problem which was in a light fixture. That my previous tenants had wired incorrectly. He immediately fixed it, checked all the other lights in the line to make sure they were working correctly.
Very professional, I would use him again, in fact I plan to the next time I need an electrician at my home.

We wanted a ceiling light fixture moved to a new location. We explained this to the electrician and he figured out a strategy for accomplishing it and did the work exactly as proposed, at price that was actually just a little below his estimate. He cleaned up the work area and even vacuumed it. We were very satisfied.

Having several outlets and lights not working, I called this electrician--and he was able to come out the next day. He was on time and friendly to both me and my young daughter. It turned out it was a GFI problem, and pushing a button was all it took to fix the problem. He was professional, fair and extremely nice. I'd definitely use him again.
