During 36 years of home ownership, I've seen the good, bad and ugly in contractors. I can honestly say that Jim is one of the very best I've worked with. He does smaller jobs like this one based on time and materials which can be the most fair IF the contractor is reasonably fast and efficient. Jim was fast (not because he rushed, but because he knew what he was doing) and he was efficient because he planed the job well and brought the proper tools and materials to the job site. In any remodel project, surprises happen. In my case, some of the framing wasn't square or plumb. This is where Jim's experience really paid off. He was able to quickly size up the problems and come up with good solutions without delaying the project. When he bid the job, he estimated three days (one for the headboard, and two for the windows) and that's exactly what it took. He was very neat, taking care to place tarps on my new carpet, and he cleaned up thoroughly at the end of each day. Another big positive was that he arrived every morning at exactly the agreed-upon time. For any job from framing to finish carpentry, Jim has my highest recommendation.
