So the biggest problem with Brandon is his communication. He simply isn't proactive about it, and you cannot assume he'll follow up. So if you're going to hire him, be ready to nag. A lot. And one reminder call won't suffice. If a subcontractor is involved, you cannot assume that Brandon will communicate the work statement correctly to the sub, or that the sub will inform Brandon of the job's status. So if a sub is coming out, be prepared to hold their hand to make sure they know what they're supposed to be doing. If they leave the job before it's finished, telling you when they'll be back and what remains incomplete, the onus is on you to tell Brandon. Otherwise the loop will not get closed, and Brandon will plead ignorance when you finally grow impatient and call him to figure out why it's taking so long.
Also, I'd have to say I found his professionalism to be very disappointing. When things were done wrong, or accidents happened, Brandon was always very quick to point out how it wasn't his fault. I don't care about fault, but I do care about responsibility, and I was extremely disappointed in how little responsibility Brandon took for his actions. I'm struggling not to go further on this one, because a lot of stuff happened during our job that still leaves me extremely upset. I don't want to go into it right now, but I do want to stress that when I claim he doesn't take responsibility, I have a lot of context to that assertion.
I should say, though, that the quality of his crew's work is pretty high, at least with the core construction. We ran into some irritations with the cement poor quality, the insulation, and the electrical. All of the crew members on site were very respectful and friendly. One even noticed we'd forgotten to take our garbage out and pulled the can to the curb. Though to my understanding, Brandon later told me that that guy "didn't work out."
So would I hire Brandon again? Not a chance. I'd hire the individuals off his crew, but Brandon himself doesn't meet my expectations of a contractor.
