The basement floor they finished was about 480 sq. ft spread over four rooms, three closets and a hallway. What was a boring and cold concrete slab is now a pretty finished concrete floor which while not warm also doesn't leech heat from the rooms as if it was a block of ice. We opted for a standard dolphin gray that is going to work fantastically with the Scandinavian modern look we're going for.
The sealer and color they use is no V.O.C and low V.O.C. Tom told me there would be a lot of odor when we were discussing the job. However, I had forgotten he told me and when I got home after the final day the house smelled a lot. Tom took my call at 7 pm and reassured me that other then being a bad smell there was no chance for harm. So big kudos to Tom for keeping people safe and calm.
And when I was putting in the below grade waste system I had set the toilet flange at 3/4" above the slab. The finishing process only adds about 1/8" so Tom and Doug created a great looking concrete platform the shape of the toilet so it would be a safe and to-code install. And because they gave that concrete the same finish it blends into the rest of the floor really nicely.
"Thank you [removed member name], We try very hard to hear what the customer is looking for and to create that space. The toilets shape was very unusual so we built a form after cutting a template from the bottom of the toilet. We us low to no VOC (GREEN) products but smell is part of the process. Thanks for the work, Tom and Doug."
We hired these guys to strip the wax and actually re-seal the floor. Ugh.
We should have hired these guys in the first place.
They were very good.
Though CSS wasn't the cheapest option, they weren't a lot more expensive than other providers.Tom and his crew were very professional -- always arriving on time and being un-intrusive (a plus as I work from home). They also went above and beyond. After they had gone home for the day, I noticed that an outdoor drain was obstructed by part of the construction material. The crew came down that evening to remove it just in case it rained. That's going above and beyond.
The job took less time than was quoted, and we are very happy with the result.
Crew was very hard working and were always punctual. Only complaint was music blasting from their parked truck when I came home the first time after they started work. After I commented it stopped and did not reoccur.
They did a good job of clean up when done and I have had lots of comments about how good driveway now looks.
Perhaps the only downside, and it's a minor one and somewhat expected in work like this, is the cleanup/mess prevention portion of the job could have been more attentive. The tile demolition and removal is messy, and a lot of fragments found it's way onto our lawn and flower beds, as well as our moss/rock garden that faces the patio. They did what they could to prevent and clean up stray debris, but we were picking up little tiny bits of broken tile in the garden for several weeks afterward as we came across them while gardening. It's understandable since the bits were tiny and easy to miss, but still a pain.
All in all, it was a great experience and the result is terrific!
"Thanks [member name removed] for the review. This project was very custom and detailed, we had to use methods unique to the project. This outdoor space turned out quite nice and looked as a part of the design instead of an after thought. Sorry for the small shards of ceramic tile that was almost impossible to contain and clean in the grass."
"Thank you for the great review. We try to be as un intrusive as possible. Tomoko had spent a bunch of money previously on here concrete and we were glad to resolve here issues at a fair price. I believe we will be back for further work she wants to schedule this year."
We had an overall design plan that was putting the walkway in a different location than previously existed. On his first visit, Tom shared his thoughts on potential issues with the design and helped us make some decisions about what we wanted. We're very grateful for his input and happy that we followed his well thought through suggestions.
Tom talked through color and stamp options with us in detail so that even after just one meeting we were comfortable what he was planning to do, and that he knew what we wanted. He communicated with us about potential start dates for the project - weather and schedules permitting. He communicated regularly throughout the project about his schedule, and the job proceeded as expected. He would always contact us if he had questions about the design or any other issues as the project progressed, and was amenable to changes, and patient with our inexperience of these projects.
Tom takes pride in his work, and it showed in the outcome and in his interactions with us. His price was reasonable compared to other bids we received, even though he warned us in advance that there were likely other companies who would be less expensive for pouring concrete. Final price matched the original estimate. The estimate was very detailed, which I appreciated as I knew where the cost was being incurred.
"The [member name removed] had many great questions that we seemed to have answered. We thank them for the great review. One of the concrete contractors bidding on this project was going to sub out the overlay to our company that we stamped if he was awarded the project. The project did end up with a unique color treatment that combined color hardener and Super-Krete Color Stain. Most beautiful concrete on the block."
Tom and his crew cranked through the work in less than a week - there is drying throughout the process that can't be hurried. They cleaned up every day, were very polite and they just really enjoy what they do. I wasn't required to be here for the first steps. When it was time to put down the stain for the coloring - he wants the owner present as the different color stains mix fluidly and he wants you to tell him when it's just right. We did three different colors which I had pre chosen.
The floors have held up really well - tons of compliments and especially in the kitchen, I can now look at the floor proudly instead of wishing it would just go away!
Can't rate Tom highly enough.
"Thanks to the customer. We had a wonderfull time working in there home. Customer had a tile floor that needed a lot of diamond grinding to get level enough to do our Super-Krete resurfacing system. After all the prep, we created a unique one of a kind concrete overlay floor. They were insturmental in the outcome of there new floor. The customer decided to upgrade to a urethane sealer/top coat and will reep the benifits for years to come. Customer was a great customer. Very happy they loved our work."
The end result of my patio is very successful - it looks great, and is a huge upgrade in both comfort and beauty over the exposed aggregate concrete that was there formerly. I'd definitely use Tom again.
"Thanks to the Member's for the review. This pool deck came out very nice. We started with exposed agergate concrete and applied Super-Krete products to achieve a cool deck finish. The back yard is so much more inviting and the surface will be much cooler in the hot sun."
Overall, Tom made this job a very positive experience. The end result is better than we expected! A beautiful entertainmentarea and an exceptional driveway with decorative finish and fish stamped along the front - the color turned out perfect and the neighbors have given rave reviews! Excellent work.
"Just a big Thanks for the review. We had to take a old Faded stamped concrete driveway and prepare it for a mirror overlay. We were able to coat and keep the origanal stamp texture finish with fish. We then applied color and high performance sealer to turn it in to a beautiful driveway that ended up looking simalar to slate. This was a perfect example that you don't have to tear out old concrete to make it beautiful. The Ripley's were a pleasure to work with and let our artistic abilities come out in their project."
"I would like to thank Member for his report. Mr Hoover has helped me be as creative as possible. He expects the highest quality work. I am hounered to receive call backs for new projects."
"The Glassy Baby project was complicated. Ended up with a surface that worked well and was safe. Thanks for the excellent review."
