I GOT NEW FLOORS INSTALLED IN AUGUST AND THEY WERE NOT DONE TO MY SPECIFICATIONS. THEY ARE BUMPY, HAVE MULTIPLE CHANGES IN ELEVATION AND ARE IN SOME PLACES ACTUALLY DANGEROUS TO WALK ON. MY FAMILY AND I HAVE SLIPPED AND FALLEN A FEW TIMES BECAUSE OF THESE ELEVATION CHANGES. I FRANKLY WOULD NOT EVER RECOMMEND SOMEONE USE Great Floors EVER AND RUN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION BECAUSE OF MY EXPERIENCE. I WAS BASICALLY TOLD "TOO BAD, THIS IS WHAT YOU GET" and we're expected to pay full price and then some to have them redone how I asked the sales to do it. THERE IS HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION BETWEEN SALES, INSTALLATION AND ESTIMATES WHICH CAUSED THIS ENTIRE PROBLEM. AND NOW I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN MY OWN HOME. It also took almost 6 weeks for them to be installed because they didn't count correctly. Meanwhile I was contacted 4 times to pay for the other half of the bill. I told them I'd pay when they were done. If I could give a zero rating, I would.

The initial evaluation and estimate appeared to go fine. Here is where things already began to go bad: 1. I picked my tile and called in the color number. When I called back later to confirm the tile and grout color, the manager of the division ordered the tile and grout without consulting me on the grout color, choosing a color I did not desire. I wanted to send it back, but we had just moved into the house and it would take an additional 2-4 weeks to send back the bad grout and get the right one, so I settled for his choice. 2. The contractor he chose arrived on time and began work. They were bonded and family owned, so I was happy to help a local company. However, when they cut out the floors they didn't cover ANYTHING in the house and my entire kitchen, including fruit on the counters was covered in the saw dust, etc. from the old floor removal. 3. Over the next few days, the contractor began cutting tile and laying them out. Instead of cutting the tile outside, they cut the tiles in my garage where my convertible was parked. The top was down and so when we got home, there was tile dust over every inch of the leather, interior and finish. I was FURIOUS! 4. We came home early a few days during the installation. Nearly every day that we did, we would find only one contractor working and he would be sitting in his car with his girlfriend/wife or outside chatting with her. Only around the time we were expected to be home would he be working. Hmmm, a little fishy. 5. Once we complained to Great Floors, the contractor finally began wrapping up the installation, however with very little regard to our walls, toilets and other appliances. He smeared grout all over the walls and tiles, put holes in the walls when removing the trim, and even broke dishes in the dishwasher when he pulled it out to tile...oh, and he never tiled under the dishwasher, he just left it bare covering. 6. Finally it appeared that the tiles were finished, but then after closer review the final caulking was not completed. It took at least 5 calls to Great Floors and over two weeks of hounding to get the contractor back to finish the job. Then once he did, he did a sub standard job with it, and there are still pits in the caulk. Additionally, he didn't even touch the holes in the wall. I called for over a month to get them back to fix it, and finally did it my self. Not only would I NEVER use Great Floors again, but I was disgusted by the level of dedication to the customer. This is a chain store and it highlights why local business are so much better. They know that reputations are everything and customer referrals bring business. I hope that people read this and find a reputable local contractor before going to Great Floors. Heidi
