I had a car stereo unit installed in my 1990 Toyota pickup one year ago at the Silverdale Car Toys. On Friday, October 18th, the unit completely quit working. I made an appt for 10 am Monday morning. I was greeted, and the service guy (who didn't really strike me as real professional), who, after finding my order history, told me the stereo was still under warranty (2 years). I was happy about that, but then he told me that they had to send the unit back to Kenwood, where it would be fixed and then sent back, which would take about a month. I didn't want to go without a stereo for that long, so he suggested I buy another unit and they would install it and send my faulty one back to Kenwood to be fixed. When he got the repaired unit back to the store, he would call me so I could come pick it up and then, essentially I would have a backup unit.....should I ever need it. So many things wrong with this! Why can't Car Toys just take the faulty unit back, since it's under warranty, and put in the new one at no charge? Kenwood would reimburse them. That's the way most retail works when you return faulty merchandise. The store takes it back, gives you a replacement, and THEY deal with the manufacturer for reimbursement. Why did I have to buy another unit? And really, the repaired unit is of no use to me......unless the new one fails too. I was pretty unhappy. They replaced the unit quickly, I paid, and they sent me on my way. I made sure I sat in the parking lot for a while to test the unit out and make sure it was working properly. It seemed to be fine, so I set out for my hour drive home. As I listened to the music while driving, I noticed that sound was concentrated toward the front of the cab. So I tried to adjust the fader so more sound came from the rear speakers, which are larger. When I turned the knob to fade to the rear speakers, I realized there was NOTHING coming out of the rear speakers. The installation guy had failed to connect them when he installed the new stereo. If I wasn't so close to home and it wasn't so late in the day, I would have turned around and drove back to have them fix it. But I couldn't. So I have now made an appt at the Totem Lake store for tomorrow (because that's where I'll be), so they can hook up my rear speakers. I'm very frustrated that 1) I got a faulty unit a year ago, 2) I drove an hour to find out that I would have to purchase another unit even though my old unit was under warranty, 3) I'll have to drive an hour back there to get the faulty repaired unit in a month when it's done, 4) They didn't hook up my rear speakers when they installed my replacement so I have to go back yet again. This is NOT cool.
