Dewhill Homes (Nancy Kirk Dewey) was referred to us by our then attorney as an expert witness in litigation against a contractor who installed dormers on our home. Nancy provided testimony and pictures as a second witness in the case and resulted in awarding us damages (unable to collect) against the original contractor. Nancy appeared originally to be quite helpful and offered us additional information e.g. improper installation of hardie board negating warranty by the original contractor. We were grateful for her help and indicated to her that the replacement project would be hers. The case was settled in March 2014 and we told her we were anxious to get the project completed. She began the "you're next on the list", "soon", "I'll get in touch with you"....litany of inertia. Weeks would go by with no update but when she finally got in touch she'd continue to string us along. We finally got a contract proposal, had it reviewed by another attorney, let Nancy know we were ready and waited for a certain start date since she wanted a down payment to accompany the contract. Finally, distressed that we were missing out on having our deck for most of the summer, we sent in the contract with the down payment and asked again for a start date hoping to initiate some action - the response was the same as usual. You're next up..... In July we were exasperated - she had not cashed the check nor had she released us by withdrawing the contract. We checked with Community Development and she had not put in for the permit until August 11th! Sill no start date. My husband and I both work full time so "floating" around a construction project start date is a real problem - quite unnecessary. In addition, one hopes for professional interaction rather than excuses for lack of communication including computer problems, family vacation, marriage in the family, etc. When Nancy finally cashed the check some 4 months after receipt, we contacted her since she'd not contacted us with a start date. We reminded her that WE had a non-reversible vacation scheduled for the third week in September and guess when she said she's start. The most poignant of all was her final email to us where she apologized and admitted "slow communication" and intimated that we should be grateful that she "took" this job that involved previous litigation. Dumbfounded, we didn't feel grateful after 3 separate trips by her to measure and re-measure the project; 10 months of discussion,contract and down payment without completion; and chastisement that we should feel "lucky" for such behavior.
