Cabinet Making
Michael Tufano was contracted last summer (2007) to build cabinets for our kitchen and house remodel. After promising to have cabinets to us by Thanksgiving, we were excited. That never happened, nor did they arrive by Christmas. It was not until repeatedly phoning Michael and showing up at his shop on Marginal Way in West Seattle, did he finally decide he needed to do something. Unfortunately, when he brought cabinets (piece by piece over several weeks beginning in March 2008) they were a mess. The first problem was, they did not fit properly at all (this after HE came and did the measurements with his associate, Scott). The contractor spent days trying to make them work. Finally, not fitting properly, he decided to go ahead and put the doors (thats right, the cabinets arrived without the doors or the drawers) on the faces to see how they looked since he was concerned that they were so far off on the measurements. The doors were a mess: they did NOT EVEN COVER the openings, with several of the cabinets revealing a 1/8" gap! Then, not one of the doors to the cabinet island fit at all! Nor did any of the hardware (sliders) work, because they could not slide out do to the doors not fitting properly. The cabinet doors do not align with the cabinet lines, and the list goes on and on... it has been the worst nightmare my wife and I have ever faced with someone we hired to do a job. Michael Tufano refuses to fix anything or return our calls, and his last comment to my wife was: "take me to court." We have filed with the Attorney Generals office, and we found he is neither licensed to do business in Seattle nor is he bonded. We are currently out $28,000 and still need cabinets.
Response from SEATTLE WOOD DESIGN
"EVERYTHING YOU JUST READ FROM HIM IS THE REALTY OF HIS OWN HEAD. HE WOULD LIKE TO BELIEVE THAT HE HAS BEEN DONE WRONG SO HE CAN FEEL BETTER ABOUT HIMSELF, WHATEVER. NOW, AS FOR ANGIE'S LIST LETTING PEOPLE POST ANYTHING THEY LIKE WITH OUT FACTS, TO ME THAT MAKES ANGIE'S LIST VERY UNRELIABLE. SO IF THE INFO IS UNRELIABLE AND THE SOURCE QUESTIONABLE AT BEST, WHAT HAVE YOU JUST LEARNED. AT THE START ANGIE'S LIST WAS A VERY GOOD CONCEPT I'M SURE BUT I'M SORRY TO SAY THAT NOT EVERYONE THAT IS A MEMBER IS A GOOD MEMBER. PEOPLE CAN POST ABOUT THEIR OWN BUSINESS OR HAVE A FRIEND DO IT. MY ADVISE IS IF YOU ARE HIRING SOMEONE TO DO A JOB ASK FOR REFERRALS WITH PHONE NUMBERS IF THEY SAY THEY DON'T WANT TO TROUBLE A CLIENT, THEN THEIR YOU HAVE IT. TRUST YOUR OWN INTELLIGENCE ON HIRING SOMEONE NOT THE ADVISE OF SOME STRANGER YOU DON'T KNOW. TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT'S WORTH, ANGIE'S LIST IS NOW USELESS BECAUSE USELESS PEOPLE HAVE FOUND ONE MORE THING TO RUIN."
