Steve did an excellent job.  He was very helpful in providing a color consultant as part of his service, which was a very nice feature. The house had not been painted properly previously and Steve had to do a lot of prep work on walls to make sure that the surfaces were able to take the paint correctly.  He was professional, careful and neat in his work, and the end result was excellent.  He took care to replace any items that he had to remove while painting, and left things in very good shape.  He was a pleasure to work with, and I would be happy to  hire him again for any painting jobs I have!

Steve of Seattle Painting and Decorating Co was a pleasure to work with.   He returned my call and came out to give an estimate quickly.  The work took several days spread over two weeks. The wall painting job was added midway through the project, and he was able to do that right away, which was very convenient. I am completely happy with the results; ceilings, walls and molding all look great.  The space was left very clean.

This is a professional painting contractor who does and excellent job. There were some wall imperfections that he fixed as he painted and he recommended just the right type of paint product. We are very happy with the wall and ceiling finishes, they look amazing. The clean up was daily and at the end he did a final check to make sure we were completely satisfied .

The bid price was detailed and accurate.

We recommend Steve and Seattle Painting & Decorating Company.

The painter did not use the brands of paint stated in our contract and then later complained about the poor quality of the paint he purchased (one wall had to be painted four times). They had the least expensive bid and they lived close to us so we hired them. We should have gone with another company.
Response from SEATTLE PAINTING & DECORATING CO
"This is the strangest and most bizarre feedback I have ever received. It is neither objective, accurate or complete. First, I would welcome anyone to call these people and ask to inspect the quality of my work. It is excellent. They told me on many occasions that they liked the work I was doing. [member name removed] was on site every single day of the job. We talked amicably every day, several times each day. He never once indicated that there were any problems. I have a hand written note from his partner, accompanying the final payment, stating that the work was good. The paint I used was a better quality than the paint I bid the job with and they knew this. I did one high angled and difficult stairway wall over several times until it was perfect. Yes, the paint performed poorly, sometimes that happens. I did not charge them for the extra coats. I could go on and on but, I think it boils down to this. [member name removed] became upset when he asked me back to do an extra room and I asked them to wait a few days (just 3 as it turned out) as I was on another job. I thought his reaction was unreasonable. Still, everything seemed fine when I returned. In addition to the extra room, I also performed many 'extras' which contributed to the few extra days needed to complete the work. In closing, I ask you the reader to please read my other 100 plus 'A' reports. I hope you'll agree with me that this report is an outlier, designed to hurt and damage, not report honestly and that it is not consistent when compared to all the others. Thank you."

First, let me say that Steven Chayer, owner of Seattle Painting and Decorating went beyond what could have reasonably been expected from any service provider.

I had a family member lined up to do all my painting and had furniture moved, art down, etc. The day before he was to begin he had to cancel. I was frantic and looked at Angie's List to see if I might possibly find someone who could help me out at a moments notice. I had had a little project where I used Seattle P & D previously so I made a phone call. Steven had just returned from vacation and had nothing lined up for himself as he planned to use the time to catch up on paperwork etc. He remembered me and offered to help by doing the work himself!. He came out, looked at the job and began the following day. He brought along his teenage son to start teaching him the business and in 3 days had completed all the painting. He saw the holes in the sheetrock and wanted to patch those so they could be painted along with everything else.
I most certainly will call him again when I need painting.

Working with Steve was a positive experience.  He was flexible and worked around other services I had done.  Receptive to feedback, which is really appreciated.  The bathroom and interior door looks great with the antico plaster effect on the walls and brushwork on the door.  Upon request, he was also willing to revise the invoice format to be completely itemized with details on labor and materials used.

Steve did a detailed estimate and asked good questions along with good suggestions on prep and type of paint.  The job started within a couple of days of the planned date. Jeremy and Paul did a great job on all aspects of the job.  They took the time to do it right.  Both had helpful suggestions on how to improve the final results.  They worked independently and required very little supervision.  Steve seems very honest, knowledgeable and professional.  We are very pleased with the results and plan to use SPADCO on a future interior project.

We worked closely with Steve Chayer and his paint crew over a period of almost 2 months. The final result was outstanding, and Steve & Jeremiah Kaynor (his lead painter) took the pains to make sure everything turned out great. Steve provided detailed estimates and delivered to those prices, giving us options for the work to be performed. He followed up on punch lists of minor defects and made sure they were corrected to my (admittedly picky) satisfaction. Steve worked with a colorist to help us make the best color choices, which I highly recommend. We also hired her to help with our granite countertop selections. There were several difficult and unusual painting problems, such as covering very dark paint and painting many small recessed spaces in a wood-paneled bathroom, which were very nicely navigated. The double-door removal, wall construction and texturing were very well done.
Steve and Jeremiah did a fine job on the kitchen cabinets, working with me and dealing well with the masking and bagging complications involved in spray painting in an already built and occupied home. The cabinets came out great.
The deck work involved researching the best materials for painting, pressure washing under and above, sealing the underside and applying a heavy coat of solid stain paint to the topside. The result here was also great.
we spent a lot of money, but then we got a lot of good service, and a good value for the money. We opted for excellent materials, but not the top-dollar interior paint. Cabinet and deck paint were top drawer.

The overall experience was great.  Steve's crew came and went and left the place as it was before.  The work was seamless, they matched the colors perfectly and the repairs made everything look as good as new.  I received two offers on my home within the first few days it was on the market.  I know it was because my home looked cared for and fresh. Thanks Seattle Painting and Decorating.

Over all my experience was great.  It can be so stressful to move, but having the paint job done before I moved in made it so much easier. Steve's men communicated with me every step of the way and stayed on time.  I used five different colors throughout my condo, and all were applied correctly and professionally. Steve recommended a colorist he works with and she was a miracle worker in narrowing down my choices, while listening to my taste.  I would recommend Seattle Painting and Decorating without hesitation.

Overall we had a great experience with them. The consulation was very helpful- while Steve listened to what we wanted, he also great suggestions. We trusted his instincts on several things like what color to paint the ceilings, trim and doors and we are very glad that we did! Steve was also helpful when we were deciding on colors. They did a great job painting. Everything was done neatly and quick! There were no drips on our floors, baseboards, etc. and they left everything neat and tidy in the rooms that they worked. All four rooms were done in just a couple of days. We are really happy with the quality of work and overall helpfulness. We would definitely use this company again.

They did a lot of work and they were very good. Their quality of work was good. A lot of good comments that I had read about them were absolutely true. Sometimes, they did not do the work on a timely manner because they were stuck up with so many jobs that sometimes I was in waiting too for the job. It was a tough job but they did very well. They were a little bit pricey but they did quality work and so they were more expensive than their competitors. It was a very hard job and hence there were a few spots. They were very professional. I would need to call them again for the inside painting.

It was really tough to get a time to meet with Steve to get a quote, but I'm glad we did. We had several others in hand at the time we met, and his wasn't the cheapest, but it was within 10% and all inclusive (paint, prices for ceiling options). We had hoped to get the job started the following Tues., but he couldn't start until Fri. He had his crew work all weekend to get the job done in time for us to move into our house the following week. The quality was great and they cleaned up the house nicely when they were done. The free color consult seemed like a nice bonus, but it was outstanding. Shauna helped my wife and I to fine tune our ideas and the house looks spectacular. We used 8 different colors, with accent walls and Shauna really helped to provide that confidence we needed to take some bolder decisions than we might have without her.

We found them on Angie?s List. I am kind of experienced with construction people and I think they did just great. They gave me a free-hour color consultation too, which was very helpful. There were a few days when I thought they could have been here but they weren?t. They may have been some place else, because it is a challenging time of the year in the Seattle area to paint outside because of rain. I think that their price was fine, because there was a lot of house to cover. They sure taped things well. They have about 2 or 3 crews that work for the company, and so there was some miscommunication about being here on a certain day. A lot of the workers spoke Spanish and not all of them spoke English, and that probably posed some challenges. There were things that got a little messed up but then, in the long run, everything was just fine. I really love the way the house looks - I would rate them highly. I plan to have them paint the inside of the house when we are ready. I really liked the way they protected everything, and it was amazing that nothing got paint that wasn?t supposed to get paint. I learnt a lot by watching them. I would recommend them to others.

Overall SPADCO did a very good job. We had 3 painters give us a quote, and when Steve came out we were impressed with his knowledge, attention to detail, and understanding of the scope of work. Even though his quote was the highest we went with them because I wasn't looking for a cheap price, I was looking for quality and I wanted the job done professionally. One very nice perk of hiring SPADCO was that included in their bid was a 1-hr free color consultation with an interior decorator. She came out, helped us pick our color palette and I can't tell you how much value that added. We had worked out the general color schemes beforehand and provided her with computer mockups. She helped us really refine our color choices, pick the right shade of white, and, most importantly, she made sure that all the different colors worked together as a unified palette. When the painters started, the scheduling got off to a bit of a rocky start. The day we were expecting them to start (and my husband had taken off work to be at home) there was a miscommunication, and the team never showed up. But Steve showed great customer service, followed up with us, explained the misunderstanding, and the team showed up the next day. The team of painters, led by Javier, set to work, and took over the house. It was a massive job, and I'm glad we weren't living there at the time because they were working in every room and painting every surface. SPADCO quotes their jobs in 3 levels of quality, and we selected Level 2. That means it's a good, quality job, but they don't necessary level and prime every surface. Javier told us a day or two into it, that we would really want to prime the door frames and window frames, and that he would throw in the labor if we would pay for materials. That was a very generous offer on his part, and we elected to do some (but not all) of the surfaces he recommended. And I'm glad we did. They turned out very nicely. (Now that I look back, we should have done all of them.) The painting got done in about 12-15 days which was very fast for the amount of work it was. I had requested that they hold off painting the baseboards because we were going to have the hard wood floors refinished after the painting and I knew our baseboards were going to get torn up. But Javier said they were scheduled too tightly and couldn't take a break for the floor guys to come in. I said OK, and we had the floors done after the painting, but now our baseboards and lower parts of the wall need some major touch-ups. (which we will probably do ourselves) When they were done, the paint job looked great! What a transformation! The colors were beautiful, and the painters did the appropriate touch-ups at the end of the job. The problem was that in all of the commotion they had lost a lot of our hardware (the pulls to the living room windows, the pulls to 2 closet drawers, a kitchen drawer pull, and a bedroom window pull). They said without hesitation that they would replace them, but because of their busy schedule it took about a month and a half for them to come back with replacements. But, most importantly, they delivered on what they promised. (SPADCO's professionalism really stood out.) And they had removed our bedroom doorstop to paint. It was lost along with the other stuff, so when the wood floor contractors came in they banged the door into the wall and the door handle left a dent in our freshly painted bedroom wall. I talked to SPADCO about it, and they apologized and came out to fix the wall damage, repaint the area and install a new doorstop. I was very appreciative. Overall, the place looks great, but there are some areas where the paint is peeling. I don't know if this is because we didn't buy the upgraded, expensive paint (we just went the basic brand they included for their quote), or because they didn't prep certain areas well, or what. We've only lived in the house for a month, but a few of our window sills have chipped paint (and we've never set anything on these window sills yet), a corner of our fireplace is peeling, and the edges of a window are peeling. These are small things, but I didn't expect them 4 weeks out. I also think that if I were to redo it again, I would choose the Level 3 quality. I am a picky person, and all the little stuff (that other people might not notice) jumps out. But all in all, it was a heck of a job, and SPADCO really brought an old, beaten down house up to a very nice, move-in quality. (please see pictures)

Steve, the president and estimator, provided a detailed estimate and patiently answered my dozens of questions via email and updated the contract as we went along. I moved out for about 10 days so they could work more efficiently. They didn't say I had to but I can't imagine how they would have functioned with me there, or vice-versa. The crew and foreman worked very hard and even worked weekends so I could get back in my house sooner. Steve had the crown moulding guy work in the evenings so both crews could work on the same days & not get in each other's way. I'm grateful for that because I really needed to get back in my house. My house looks really beautiful. The crown moulding guy (never did know his name) deserves extra praise because it looks flawless. He is a very talented craftsman. They have three levels of surface preparation and I splurged for the top level since my 1943 house was looking a bit ratty and I plan to live there a long time. I'm glad I didn't settle for a lower level of prep work because it practically looks like a new house. I didn't use their color consulation service, but I wish I had. I was confident with the colors I chose so I didn't bother, but the two shades of rose I chose for a bedroom looked like Pepto-Bismol when it was on the walls. They probably would have talked me out of those colors if I had checked with them. I had them repaint it (at my expense, of course) a different color and it looks great now. Expensive error in judgement. There were some issues at the walkthrough. They have you complete a "punch list" which is a list of things you want them to correct. One small wall was painted the wrong color and the wrong formula of paint was used in the kitchen, along with just a few other very minor things. They came back and took care of everything and now it looks fantastic. They are a great company to work with and would recommend them highly.

Seattle Painting & Decorating were responsive and timely in meeting our request for a painting bid. Wihin days, they submitted their estimate, and even returned to answer questions and concerns. Their price compared well with the three other estimates we obtained, but their openness was a bonus. The were able to start the job almost immediately, during our requested timeframe, in the hottest part of the summer. The crew was prompt, courteous, pleasant and thorough; they cleaned up the work daily. At one point, while we were away, they even watered some of our plants that were in danger from the sun and heat. They finished on time and, following the inspection, returned immediately for touchups. They even returned the next day without delay for some added work. I would use this company again.

We were extremely pleased with the performance of the entire process as well as delighted with the final result. The original estimate was over our budget but Steve gave us some options which allowed us to get the complete project done with the quality we required. In addition, we had a time constraint that he said they could meet and they did. Shauna was very knowledgeable and helpful with colors and coordination and worked with us when we changed a couple of colors. Javier and his crew were superb. They were very professional. They arrived every morning promptly at the agreed time and worked very diligently. They were polite, pleasant and very accommodating to any of our requests. We anticipated that a large project like this which includes the entire house would be very stressful especially given our time constraint. But Javier and the crew did their very best to keep us informed and to reduce our anxiety and displacement. Best of all, they delivered what they promised by finishing on time and with an excellent result. We are very pleased and can highly recommend this firm
