I contacted RW Handyman in September with a list of the work I needed done. They promptly responded and was able to work with my short timeline. On the day we scheduled, a handyman by the name of Pat showed up to do the work. He was very nice and friendly. I was concerned whether or not Pat would physically be able to perform the work. He was an older gentleman and looked a little frail, especially given that some of the work required heavy lifting and crawling around on the floor. I was surprised given that we had established the work needed upfront, but I decided to give Pat the benefit of the doubt.
MDF Bathroom Baseboards: When Pat was trying to install the baseboards, they kept breaking and Pat had to go back to the store several times to buy more. He ended up using screws to install the baseboards instead of nails to prevent them from breaking. Overall the job looks good, but you can see the screw holes very prominently. He also missed replacing one section and had to come back to finish it.
Bathroom Mirror: Pat needed my help installing the bathroom mirror. Lifting it into place was a 2 person job given the tight space and size of the mirror. After installing the mirror, I noticed that the anchors weren't very secure. I had Pat remove the mirror and replace the anchors.
Transition strips: These are the strips between the tile and carpet floor. This required Pat to go to the store to shop for the right product several times. The end result looks good.
Fixed kitchen sink cabinet baseboard - Pat used a piece of plywood cut to size and covered with laminate tile. The tile is not very well cut and is sticking up in places. He didn't take the time to caulk the board around the edges to seal it. This is the baseboard in the cabinet under the kitchen sink, so having it sealed is very important. I sealed it myself.
Capped the floor at end of stairs - Looks good
Fixed gap under front door threshold - At first Pat just stuffed the gap with some foam insulation. The insulation was sticking out everywhere and didn't look very good. I had Pat come back to fix this. He ended up putting in a metal bracket over the foam which is secure and looks good.
Overall the job was done to my satisfaction, but it required a lot of supervision and rework. Pat also had to do a lot of shopping, going back and forth to the store on my dollar. The manager, Mitchel, agreed to comp me for some of the work, but the end price of 1555 dollars for 2 days of labor and material was very high IMO, especially given all the rework that was needed. I feel this job could have been done faster, cheaper, and better.
The first time they came out for a review of the property needs, they were honest that I didn't need their full service package, but would be available on an on-call basis.
I was able to make the appointment within a short time of contacting them.
The worker was early and prepared to do the work.
He was courteous and friendly and did the work in a professional manner.
This was a sort of test run for future work, and I'd use the company's services for future work without hesitation.
