The original time estimate was two weeks. It took four weeks to get the camera back. Inquiries after the 2nd week were responded to with and quot;just another day or twoand quot;. Then still not ready after a week.
When the body went to the shop all of the grips were intact; now they are all lifting off.
I prefer to shop locally, but next time I will just send it to Nikon.

I just picked up the camera today, so don't know whether the repair will hold up, but was offended enough by their customer service that I wanted to write this now, and I just hope their repairs are better than their customer service:
When I came to pick up my video camera today, the woman alone behind the counter was clearly busy with another customer, so I tried to find someone else to ask for the bathroom. As I walked toward a room divider to find someone to ask, the employee at the counter (who hadn’t even acknowledged my presence) started yelling at me. I said I was looking for the bathroom, and she yelled “There isn’t any. And you don’t just go snooping around here.”
Give me a break. There wasn’t a sign about not having public bathrooms. I was a customer they had called, trying not to interrupt her. But even someone (heaven forfend) just seeking a bathroom shouldn’t be yelled at in that way. No one should.
The contrast with the excellent customer service at Glazer’s, the nearby camera store, couldn’t be greater. As I told the much nicer man who emerged from behind the divider at Photo-Tronics (I suspect he heard her yell, and suspect this isn’t the first time), I’ll go far out of my way to avoid that kind of treatment when I’m next in need of camera repairs, and will advise my photographer friends to do likewise.

My 10 year old Canon Rebel wouldn’t hold a charge so I asked around and everyone said Photo-tronics in Seattle. Mailed Photo-tronics my camera, they called me once they received it and gave me a quote and estimated completion date. I received the camera back just before their quoted completion date and it was all shiny new and works great!

They repaired some pin connectors for the memory card. They had to dissemble the whole camera. He loaned me a camera to finish a project. It turned out that the memory card I had was faulty so it was bending the pins. I used the memory card in his camera and it did the same thing and he did not charge me. He really knows what he is doing. I can't even think of anyone else that I would even go to.
